This movie is ridiculous...

First, the castings all wrong, there is no way that guy is a hooker.. and that big guy playing lock? yeah right I'd love to see the others try lift him in a line out.

Second, people have talked about the use of the kamate haka as being offensive (which it is as Ngati Toa - the iwi which created that haka - was not consulted & also because the first time the main character performed it he had NO idea what he was doing!) but what I thought was even worse was that they drew moko on themselves in felt. Honestly, what were the producers thinking?? That shows no respect at all.

This movie is cliche after cliche, I can't believe people think its any good.

The only thing screwy about the coach putting Penning in at hooker was that he apparently had done no training at all in the position, which is an unforgivably reckless and unsafe decision. You can never put a novie hooker right into a match, especially at their level of play (even though it's U-19). But for the needs of the story, putting Penning in the one position where he'd have to directly integrate (bind) with his teammates, and actually get as physically into the game as possible, it works very well.

As for the big bruddah, of course he's playing lock--where else would he play? That does not mean, however, that he'll be lifted. You don't automatically lift only the locks. You use your best lifters--often the lock-forwards or props--to get your best jumpers up, who might be a flanker or a #8.

Agreed. Hooker is a tough position, especially if you never played it before a match. But they usually are the captains of the scrum and is a good juxtaposition for a wing.
You rarely lift a lock. The flankers or 8-man are the jumpers.

It's also painfully generic, bland and instantly forgettable. I love these fake "rave" reviews that people associated with the movie put on here. They need to be a little bit less obvious if they're going to do this.
