The best rugby movie that I know is This Sporting Life (1963), a British film directed by Lindsay Anderson from a fine novel of the same title by David Storey (who played professional rugby himself). TSL features Richard Harris in his first big part as Frank Machen who plays Rugby League for some small industrial town in the north of England during the 1950s. It is a location shot, black and white vision of a tough world, and I have rarely seen a film that so well portrays the organized violence of contact sports--sort of like Robert DeNiro as Jake LaMotta in Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull (1980).

There is an episode of Friends where Ross plays rugby - probably the best recreation of rugby on the small screen that I have seen - was hard hitting and intense.

I'd say Invictus is still my favorite. I just saw Prep School and it does a pretty good job portraying an American high school rugby team IMO. The songs, the drinking games, the harda$$ coach, etc. Brought me back for sure.
