Has Sci-Fi ever made a good movie?

Well, all of the reviews for the Sci-Fi original movies I've seen have been horrible and I'm just curious if there ever has been a good movie.

reply

All of the reviews? You mean you haven't watched them? You gotta give it a chance. And you might be surprised to hear this, but my favourite me has the worst reviews ever. Before those reviews I never heard of the movie. So I proceeded to see the movie for myself and wondered why it had so many bad reviews. But after seeing it, it was instantly my fav. That is my advice. See it for yourself.

But Sci-Fi originals are the best movies in my opinion. They take a different turn than the norm. So it is expected that many would not find them appealing. But I do.

Here are some of the good movies from Sci-Fi and most are my favourite.

Skeleton Man
Chupacabra: Dark Seas
House of Dead 2
Anonymous Rex
AI Assault
Android Apocalypse
Lake Placid 2
Mammoth
Interceptor Force 1 & 2
Cube 2: Hypercube
Painkiller Jane

There are many more but I recommend those.

Abonible(sp?) the onw with the guy in the wheelchair that one was actually good. Chupacbra was good to.

reply

sci fi movies are just to watch for fun if you expect a good movie your crazy. its all about watching the bad acting and bad effects

Abominable was not a Sci-Fi original. It just premiered on the Sci-Fi Channel and yes it was a good movie.

Personally I liked LARVA, FRANKENFISH & HAMMERHEAD.

reply

You sure? If I can remember correctly when the movie was about to premiere the Sci-Fi commercials always said "a Sci-Fi pictures original". And I think it is one of their films because the movie has a really similiar theme and background to most of the Sci-Fi originals I've seen. I know the strategy Sci-Fi uses and the locations and the actors. I gave it a 10. And good choices prbronx. Larva, Frankenfish and Hammerhead were some very good films to watch, all of which I gave a 10.

reply

Yeah cause before Abominable even hit theaters, websites like Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting were hoping that it would be released nationwide. It actually screened in some cities like LA and NY. Unfortunately the movie makers decided to sell it to the Sci Fi Channel and they premiered it on a Saturday night.

Yes I really liked Larva, Frankenfish & Hammerhead. They were actually decent and well acted.

reply

Oh, come now, every week the Sci-fi channel plays a good movie, just dont take it seriously.

I'll send you a love letter! Straight from my heart, ****er!

Ice Spiders was hilarious! So long as you like camp, appreciate bad acting and writing, this one is a classic.

reply

Abominable was a SCI-Fi original movie. It even says on Sci-Fi.com. It is listed under the section Sci-Fi original movies.

Bradley, The Biggest MEGhead on the Planet! (MEG-2008) Trust Me. You'll Want To See This.

reply

Hey xc0xc0Xco
I have seen both

Chupacabra: Dark Seas

Mammoth

Loved them both!

reply

Ice Spiders was alright, I just finished watching Supergator and it was good

Marilyn Manson's new cd "Eat Me, Drink Me" comes out June 5th!

reply

What I've always thought Sci-Fi should do is stop churning out these low budget crap heaps on a monthly basis and invest in making 3 or 4 movies a year with decent produciton values.

reply

But who says these low budget films are crap? I think they're awesome and I love'em!

reply

i love low budget sure they might be cheap and well weird and hard to follow but its very original i mean sure u get a few sequels done, but with original films like frankenfish, dinocroc, cerberus, and this ice spiders its alot original than say us getting another pirates of the caribbean movie, or oceans 13 or 14 wherever they are at

reply

I liked:

Dog Soldiers
Terminal Invasion
Slipstream
Beyond Re-animator

The Pumpkinhead sequels and the Return of the Living Dead sequels were pretty bad, but still fun. I watch them whenever they come on. Alien Apocalypse was okay too.

reply

Most of these movies are pretty cheesy and bad. I guess it's not much different though than the monster movies from the 50's that are considered classics now. I think these Sci-fi movies are okay if you know that they are B-movies. They are okay to watch on a Saturday night at home.

reply

Dog Soldiers wasn't made by the Sci-Fi Channel, it was just made in the UK and then sold to them in the US.

reply

I liked the one with Dean Cain where they spend about 10 minutes in a mall picking outfits to wear lol

reply

Dune and Children of Dune were pretty good.

It's really unbelievable that someone could write such an atrocious piece of crap. But it's amazing that another one just read it and decided that this should be made into a movie (!?!). They better buy some food for the hungry children of africa with the money they throw on these scifi masterpieces of horror entertainment

reply

I´ve heard of a series of movies under the name of "Star Wars".
Are they any good ???

reply

I liked the Bermuda Triangle 3 part series. The one with Lou Diamond.

reply

Oh! Lou Diamond made a good movie called Route 666. That is one of the funniest horror movies ever! Check it out sometime.

reply

Well, all of the reviews for the Sci-Fi original movies I've seen have been horrible and I'm just curious if there ever has been a good movie.

Did Sci Fi have anything to do with the Tremors movies? Those were really good!

reply

Frankenfish was decent

the one with Bruce Campbell and giant termites was funny, and then there was one about a spaceship that as lost in space that was ok too

most of them are complete garbage though, and the cgi special effects are embarrassing

reply

I started my day with "Frenkenstein Meets the Space Monster" on AMC and ended it with "Abominable" on SCi-Fi. Sort of completing the circle of b (c?) movies as it were.
I get a kick out of the Sci-Fi movies because they continue the tradition of campy horror movies from the 50's and 60's. I watch them ith my 11 year old (his favorites are the ones with intelligent ants and giant spiders and such). BTW the one on Sci Fi with the smart ants from space was real fun.

Are they bad? sure.

Are they fun? Heck yeah.

I like watching 'em and I hope Sci-Fi keeps churning them out. Nothing better to fall asleep to on a Sat or Sun night.

Also, Abominable was not "made" by sci-Fi. Maybe it was bought by them and they bill it as such now, but the gore and the fuzzed out nudity and the bleeped language reveal it to be a theatrical intended movie.

reply

I have never seen one good movie from Scifi. Their movies aren't even so bad, they're good. They are just plain bad.

Here's a list of all the sci-fi original movies.

I remember really liking Epoch. But I really don't think I'd like any of the others. Epoch was a fluke.

reply

oh the haunted prison one with jake busey is decent too

reply

Loved Frankenfish.
