Good, I am glad she got a shot at Broadway.

I just saw Grease on Broadway 8-25-07 and thought Ashley probably could have done better than Laura.

I disagree, but it's water under the bridge now. Ashley is now playing Sandy on Broadway and Derek is playing Danny. But maybe you already know that.

Laura did fine. Most critics liked her. If you can come up with better reviews for Ashley, I'll concede you're right. However, bear in mind that the television audience voted for Laura over Ashley by a wide margin. I admit that when Max and Laura were chosen, fans of Austin and Ashley got their money back. However, if Austin and Ashley had won, I am sure fans of Max and Laura would have done the same.

Many people wanted Max and Ashley to win because they thought they had more chemistry whereas they thought Laura worked better with Austin. However, I am glad Derek got the role of Danny now. He's a better singer, is younger, and looks the part.

I wouldn't brag about the margin of votes since the show was very low rated anyway. And Laura is not that talented if she was she would have had something else lined up by now like Ashley did when she left Hairspray.

Laura said she was returning to Minnesota for a time because she missed her family and friends. I understand she is up for another part. She was offered the role of Sandy in the National Tour company, but declined. So did Max.

I admit the show tanked in the ratings, but nonetheless, those who did care enough to vote, preferred Laura. I do like Ashley too, however, and I believe she'll have a great future on Broadway. It wouldn't surprise me if she were still performing on the New York stage 30 years from now.

I heard she was up for Maria in West Side Story not sure if she's right for that though. I can't picture her playing Maria at all.

I lived in Puerto Rico for years and my wife is Puerto Rican. Believe me, Ashley's not right for the part. Puerto Rico has blue-eyed blonde girls, but none of them come from poor families.

I've never liked West Side Story. When Maria sings over the dying Tony, I always think "Will you shut up and call an ambulance?" (They didn't have 911 in 1959.)

i love west side story it's my favorite movie and I've been dying for it to return to Broadway. LOL at what you said about Maria singing instead of calling an ambulance I never thought about that. I mean there are a lot of people just standing there (in the play it's pretty much everyone in the main cast except for the adults) and it's hard to believe not one of them thought about getting help.

There were two cops there (Simon Oakland and William Bramley I think) as I recall, but they didn't do anything except arrest the stupid kid who shot Tony. Going back to the musical, Tony was supposed to be Italian at first, but they decided to make him Polish because they thought Italian and Puerto Rican were too similar. I'm Italian and my wife of 32 years is Puerto Rican. When we read that we got a big laugh out of it.
