Feel bad for Max?

Does anyone else feel a little bad for Max? I mean ok, we get it. He's not a "classically" good-looking guy. No chiseled features or dreamy smile or whatever. No greasy, bulging muscles like Austin and Derek. But do the judges HAVE to point it out every single week? I know they don't say "hey, you're ugly!" but every week at least one of them has to point out that he's not a typical Danny, or he's the "unconventional" Danny. And I think we all know what that means. I don't know, it just bothers me. Obviously he knows what he looks like, and I give him credit for not caring about that and auditioning for the show at all, let alone getting this far.

reply

It's all based on opinion anyway. I personally find Max a whole lot hotter than Austin. It's completely in the eye of the beholder. Catherine Zeta Jones is considered beautiful and I don't see it at all.

reply

Personally I think Max is being overpraised for his performances. I've never been impressed by him and think the judges are too generous in their critiques.

I agree, amazonprince71.

There must be something to Max that the viewing audience hasn't seen. I'm sure he is a nice guy, but he certainly doesn't strike me as being broadway stage material, especially from what we have seen of him on the show.
I agree too! I don't mean to knock the poor guy, but if this were a traditional audition for Danny, the casting director and producers would have dismissed him in the beginning. Unfortunately, the people voting for him week after week all suffer from "Underdog Syndrome" and they think they're doing him a favor by voting for him because he's the "underdog". The same thing happens all the time in these voting-reality shows. But, once the novelty wears off, audiences will not be drawn into the theater for Max's Danny and the producers will realize that casting him was a big mistake. And, I think both Austin and Derek have suffered because of the way they look too. People are judging them, concluding that just because they're good-looking they are not deserving of the role. Talent wise, Austin is the best, and far superior to Max. But, no one can see that.

October22 i also find max way hotter than austin

"Hair of the dog, bro. Want some?" "Yea, no thanks I had a 6-pack for breakfast."

[deleted]

Me too. I think Max is way hotter than Austin. Austin looks like a plastic Ken doll to me.

reply

Usually, I would feel bad about what he went through, but he only said it for sympathy votes.

reply

Well, austin was asking for some sympathy votes too with the whole, "this could be my last chance and the little fat boy is still inside of me."

reply

Yeah, I said exactly that in another thread. He was going on about his age, which is around my age, saying how he will disappear into oblivion if he doesn't win. I would count that as a sympathy vote too.

Honestly, I agree with anyone who lost respect for either of them for what they said. I am not trying to be insensitive. When you win...then tell the people what you've been through. How you got there. I hate that whole "sympathy voting" crap. It's a show on talent...not "how screwed up my life was" or "things I do or don't have" is it?

This is one of the reasons I don't like "reality" shows.

reply

how can no one not think max is impressive. he's not the typical danny. that's good. her's breaking the mould.

reply

They were both begging for the sympathy vote. Neither of them cried out "PLEASE VOTE FOR ME, I'M PATHETIC", but that was definitely implied. Both of the remaining Dannys are pathetic and this whole show was pathetic. That was sooooooo below the belt to pull the Pathetic card. Max looks like he looks regardless of Bell's Palsy, and Austin is lacking in personality, charm or as seen when he and Chad had the sing off, professionalism. I'm not watching the finals, and I'm certainly not buying a ticket on Broadway to see those two losers.

reply

To be fair, they did have a clip of Chad sitting all by himself in one of the interviews with the song "All by myself" playing in the background. And he says something about how the other guys seem to have a problem with him and Allie said how cruel the guys were to Chad. I wonder what they would have done if he'd made it to the finals.

I personally think the showrunners are trying to make them all look pitiful.

reply

I agree. Max has so grown on me, and I think he is beyond adorable. Austin over sings (and not great) and over acts to the point where it makes me want to vomit every time I see his face. I really liked him in the beginning, and he dropped in my eyes real fast. I sincerely hope Max wins...he has grown the most during this competition, and he has the talent, looks, and personality that puts austin to shame.

The onlt personin the show I have respect for is Laura, and Kate (then she was tragically booted).

On most shows of this type, those personal story snippets are done by production editors. They get the folks talking, then pull out a story. I don't think either Max or Austin specifically asked for any particular part of the story to be emphasized. I hope it didn't hurt (or help) either of their chances. It'd be nice to think the show could be cast based on overall talent and appeal.

To any who don't think Max has appeal, I'm not buying it. I never thought he was anything but a nice-looking twenty-one year old guy. (Not ugly or even homely. Nice-looking.) Then I saw him perform "Summer of 69" and he became the version of Danny Zuko I'd most like to see. He has a GREAT smile. Great charisma. I've became a true fan, and I'm no teenager.

reply

Who cares what any of us think? He won. That's all that matters.

reply

Well I feel bad for him now since Laura is a big Broadway star and Max is currently in the Whatever happened to...? pile

"Don't they know they're making love to one already dead?!"

Love Les Miserables!!!
