Like A BAD High School Musical!!

I can't believe that this idiotic show is on the air! Much less that there are people who take it seriously. The "talent" is worse than a BAD high school production. The audience goes nuts like it's the Beatles for the first time on American television on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. The judges "love" everyone.

American Idol is one thing (I'm NOT a fan of that show either). At least Simon and occasionally, Randy give some well-deserved criticism. What's REALLY hard to believe is that somehow they think that Broadway patrons might actually pay $100+ per ticket to see these horrible performers (they WON'T! .. Notice that the screamers in the audience are all about 13 years old. THEY don't have the money to go to Broadway)!

reply

hahahaha! im not even going to start. it would be a waste of energy to reply to you.

reply

Then why did you?

reply

hahahahahaha!

All I can surmise from your post is that you are a snobby elitist who thinks he or she knows something about Broadway. I'm sure you have criticism to level at everything you see, and rarely have anything nice to say about anything. I've met people like you in real life, and all I can do is shake my head sadly at you. You can dislike the show as you please, but you might want to do a little research about the ticket sales for the musical. They might surprise you.

Elitist? I know more about Broadway than you'll ever know. I'll say it again. If they think that Broadway patrons will pay $100+ to see these no-talent amateurs, they are delusional!

reply

"I know more about Broadway than you'll ever know." You know this how? Since you don't know me and don't know how much I know, I'm just wondering, do you have mind powers or something? And by that comment, I *know* you're an elitist.

As to the second part of your reply, they already have. Ever since the tv show debuted, they have been selling tickets like crazy. So obviously, you don't know what you're talking about. You're just making an assumption based on your own opinion.

I know how much *I* know. And trust me, it's more than you'll ever know!

I don't know where you're getting your "facts" from, but regardless, the idiot contestants on this show are NOT in the current cast! As I said before .. if the "producers" of this idiotic talent vacuum think Broadway patrons will pay $100+ for tickets to see this tripe, they are in for a sad awakening!

Besides, what exactly does "selling tickets like crazy" mean? I usually think in actual dollar amounts. "Like crazy" is not a dollar amount.

Now .. if they plan on taking this show on the road for all of the 13-year olds in America to pay $15 each to see it and scream like it is the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, then yes. It will be a monster success. Kind of the Broadway equivalent of "Barney On Ice."

reply

"I know how much *I* know. And trust me, it's more than you'll ever know!" You don't know that, though, because you don't know how much *I* know.

"regardless, the idiot contestants on this show are NOT in the current cast." Of course not, moron. The leads have not officially been chosen yet.

Ever since this show started, people have been buying tickets for the play. They got a ton of publicity for this, thanks to the reality show. Whether you like it or not, there are a lot of people who are going to buy tickets for the play. They will shell out $100 for a ticket, if only to see the people that America supposedly chose.

Will hard-core elitist snobby so-called Broadway affecianados, such as yourself, buy tickets? Probably not. That particular group considers itself above anyone else, and can't possibly think outside the box. But I would seriously doubt if they'll miss your money, since they're going to be making plenty off of the fans of the reality show. I doubt very much the producers care that they may or may not be insulting the typical Broadway patron, when they're opening the door for many other people to go see the show. So bypass this show if you must, but know that you are wrong about how much money they will be making off the show.

The extremely poor ratings of this show would tend to disagree with your premise.

Hun, I have to say, you're really bad at defending your points. When someone says that you're an elitist, the worst possible way to defend yourself is by saying " I know more than you'll ever know!!" That's only proving them right.

Besides that, I think (this is my opinion) that Max and Laura were very talented. In fact, I had far more of a problem with the cast who they chose outside the show.

But no matter how much you hate it, this show is going to sell out. People who watched the show will want to see it, people who didn't know about the show will want to see it...It's Grease. Unless they hired some of those no-talent losers off of American Idol, people would buy tickets.

Also, it's clear from your comment about AI that you never really watched Grease. On AI, all that happens is Simon insults them, Randy guiltily tells them they suck, and Paula..Well..Let's not talk about Paula. On Grease, they give real constructive criticism. "You aren't fun enough for Danny" or "You don't have that edge Sandy needs to have at the end of the show" and the contestants actually tried to improve.

The way I see it, you have the same problem with this show as most people who don't like it; they're auditioning people for Broadway on TV. You probably wouldn't be so upset if this were for a musical movie, or if Max and Laura were cast through traditional means.

Just because people are paying to see it right now doesn't mean the show will last long...after the buzz gets out how BAD the show is going to be. To be honest, I had hope for it in the beginning...but now that I see who has been cast as Danny and Sandy...There is no way this show is going to last long. Than Laura can go on her honeymoon. :)

I'm not usually this cynical. I've only seen Broadway performance performed on TV...and some dinner theater...So I am not an expert in any way shape or form. I'm just someone that WANTS to see a GREAT Broadway show...and after watching this...It isn't going to be this one.

OP is 100% correct! I've seen many shows on broadway and they all cost at least $100. The ONLY contestant I'd pay any money to see is Laura. She is miles above anyone else in singing ability. Any of the other people on the show wouldn't get a first call back at an audition for a major broadway production. They don't have broad enough ranges or big enough voices for a broadway stage. You could tell during the Andrew Lloyd Webber episode where everyone except for Laura sounded like a mediocre karaoke rendition.

reply

The fact that the only contestant you'd pay to see is Laura shows you don't know anything about Broadway. Laura hasn't shown any acting ability whatsoever, and she does the same moves for every single song. And that's what you'd pay to see on Broadway? Are you nuts?

And no, OP isn't correct. The judges were brilliant about this. As soon as this show hit the air, tickets for the Broadway started selling like crazy. Go look it up. So people *are* paying for it, and they are making money off of it.

I personally disagree with the original statement that the talent on the show is like a bad high school musical. I have seen high school productions and I have see broadway and I am saying here and now that that the two are couldn't be more different and I would probably pass out due to shock if the high school productions sounded like the people on the show. I think that there are several contestants that show broadway potential. Also, I follow the show loyally and would love to see some of the contestants in the broadway production, I'm not a 13 year old and I have the money to pay for the tickets.

I totally agree. I have tried to enjoy this show and the girls are okay (just okay) but the guys are terrible--nowhere near the talent you see on American Idol. I'll be interested to see what comes of this on Broadway. Who's backing it---it would be a lot of money for the network to blow and I don't see many theatre angels jumping on board for this. But maybe it will attract the reality show market--I just don't know if that connects with the Broadway market. I'd be interested to know how many of the fans actually see shows on or off Broadway.

This show sucks.

It's so bad, it's good! It's sort of a guilty pleasure!!!

I do have to say I am skeptical of America judging.

Judging by your tagline, I would say that you don't know anything about a whole lot of things! I, however, know what I am talking about.

reply

I hate to say it, but I agree with the Original Poster.

reply

LMAO!!! I feel so stupid! When I first read this topic I thought the poster was talking about High school Musical, the Disney channel movie! BUt I agree I don't think it's going to hit off. I liked the show, I've been waiting for a Broadway like reality show but I didn't want it to be like this. I was hoping it was more like America's Next top model you know where the winner gets some kind of contract with a talent agency or something like that and I didn't like the American Idol type voting.

The show tanked in the ratings, but what do you want for early in the evening on Sunday? I liked it and cheered when Max won. He and Laura left on July 22, but I hope they'll go on to better things.
