The best I could come up with was this:
By the point they had an unconcious woman on their hands--let alone a little girl--the Army guy already had it in his head to get rid of Kyle & Branco as well. My guess is that he figured Kyle would keep the little girl safe but out of the picture long enough for him to come up with a good strategy for getting rid of her too, and Kyle as well--it just got more complicated when Kyle was arrested and Rosie was found. I'm thinking he (Army guy) saw no way that Leeanne was going to ultimately keep quiet,so when Kyle & Branco (or whatever "the Macedonian"'s name was)asked him if she was dead, he was counting on them being too agitated, in conjunction with not being bright enough, to doubt his verdict. Remember how he asked the policeman (I think it was Jim) to tell him where they were with the investigation, but was refused?
Hope this helps--it made sense to me.
