just finished w/ep. 5 ?????(spoiler)

can anyone help with clearing some things up. i was suprised to see matt's army mate the murderer. what was his motive? did he want matt to join the army again and leann didn't want matt to? i thought they cleared up that the baby she was carrying was matts or did i miss something there and the baby was the army mate's. it just seemed that they pulled him in from nowhere. just wondering what others thought.

I watched it every week and this is what I got from the last episode. The army mate, Kyle, and the flower guy was selling illegal cigarettes and Leanne comforted them at the truck, somehow she got knock down and they hide her in the grandfather house. Kyle went looking for the kids after they took Leanne to the house. The dog bite him and the little boy ran away. Rosie and Leanne stay in the house. The army mate told Kyle that Leanne was dead, but she wasn't and he and the flower guy put her in the lake. Kyle told Rosie that she was sleeping and not to tell anyone. The army mate killed the flower guy. I don't know why the army mate told them that she was dead. That's the confusing part for me.

The best I could come up with was this:

By the point they had an unconcious woman on their hands--let alone a little girl--the Army guy already had it in his head to get rid of Kyle & Branco as well. My guess is that he figured Kyle would keep the little girl safe but out of the picture long enough for him to come up with a good strategy for getting rid of her too, and Kyle as well--it just got more complicated when Kyle was arrested and Rosie was found. I'm thinking he (Army guy) saw no way that Leeanne was going to ultimately keep quiet,so when Kyle & Branco (or whatever "the Macedonian"'s name was)asked him if she was dead, he was counting on them being too agitated, in conjunction with not being bright enough, to doubt his verdict. Remember how he asked the policeman (I think it was Jim) to tell him where they were with the investigation, but was refused?

Hope this helps--it made sense to me.

that helps thank you for taking the time to post. i enjoyed the show alot i thought the acting was great and the "what happens next" element was what kept me tuning in. i just think they could have made the army mate's connection more clear.

I watched it last night (NZ) and my interpretation was simply that because the army mate was military and therefore military trained he was considered to be far more calculating than the others. Whereas the others displayed emotions, the army guy didn't (well, no more than a few emotional twinges when talking to the policeman to spy on matt). By being military he was more detached and was able to commit the crimes. Killing Leanne was possible because he saw her as a possible witness so the practical and logical solution was to kill her. Knowing that the other guys wouldn't actually be able to kill her, he essentially got the job done.

I think it was simply that she was a possible weakpoint/witness and he was able to order her death. No more in depth plot reasons than that.

Actually that was my interpretation through a lot of the series. I think it showed how sometimes people can die, as a result of a coincidence or series of bad events (Leanne simply being at the layby and having a go at them)- ie there doesn't need to be a huge big motive and justification such as in tv shows like CSI or whatever.

Yeah but tacking Gary on in the end as the killer makes no sense? If Branko pushed Leanne, why did he feel it necessary to kill everybody to cover this small crime up? also was Gary in the Van? Clearly not Leanne would have recognized him and then would have confronted Matt about it after or argued with Gary, also Gary isn't going to let these guys attack Leanne over cigarettes? This show had some potential but damn I had to watch the ending like three times to figure out what they were actually referring to. I just don't get the Gary angle. Motivation and involvement with Kyle? They are business partners or buds? Wtf so stupid.
