5 Episodes is 4 Too Many

I can't believe I'm still watching this. Every episode is so uneventful. They could have fit this whole story into an hour, or at least a movie. I think it's absurd that they're stretching this into 5 hour-long episodes

reply

Too bad, I think this is some pretty good drama.

reply

I just started watching it in the US and I was in it for the first two episodes but now it's dragging. Just get on with it already.

reply

I thought it moved pretty good...sure it wasnt heartpounding action for 60 minutes but DRAMA isnt supposed to be. It had really some moments where it was slower, yeah, but I thought it was necessary and it didnt make the hour seem like it was dragging or anything. I actually look forward to the new ones and I havent been into a "series" like that since season one of Dexter.

Amen. First 2 episodes were great but the last 2 they showed were awful. I looked it up on Wikipedia just to see what happens so I don't have to watch the final one.

reply

close.. it's 5 too many

reply

No, no.

You guys are qualifying the show based on how many big events transpired during its run.

We knew from the beginning that we (the audience) were going to have to sort of "wait it out", just like the characters in the story.

Of course it was uneventful.

The point in the story is that, the case was unsolved for about a year, with practically no leads, no clues . . . there was even a body until about halfway through!

Where the drama arises, and where the value of the show lies, is in highlighting the emotional strain such a shocking situation (uneventful, though it may be) has on the people involved.

The nerve-racking uncertainty . . . the agonizing anticipation . . . the anguish of guilt and empathy . . . these are the things that make this miniseries shine.

I wish this could have been a full 13 episode season!

Aha! I wondered what the title meant. I saw this on dvd, not as a tv show, and I couldn't figure out what the "Five Days" were.

reply

I would've liked it better if it was a 2 hour movie.

reply

It's sad "13" is considered a full season. I remember when 24-25 episodes was the norm (basically enough episodes to fill half a year).

reply

In Australia we saw it in two episodes of approximately 2 hours each. It was so boring and dragged out.
I agree that one episode of about 90 minutes would have been almost bearable.

reply

Oh Kay. The Brits do drama really well. Sometimes. This was, yawn, self-indulgent. The only people who can watch this are the british themselves. And, lordee, WHAT WAS THAT MUSIC?! 'Second Coming' was much better.

reply

Hahaha...I agree. A few spaced out moments of poignancy, but I just finished the second episode and I'm still waiting for something to happen. The acting is not great either imo.

And yeah the music is a bit too much

reply

Just watched the DVD and couldn't disagree with you more.

reply

I think it was probably 5 episodes too many.

reply

I saw the subject of this thread before I watched the five episodes. And I had it in the back of my mind the whole time. And I do agree; 5 episodes is 4 too many. Much better if it had been a TV-movie.

reply

I liked the series and although it may seem like it's dragged out, I have no problems with the 5 episodes.

This is not a movie or a 1hr drama, this is a mini-series documenting the effects of people's lives.

Let's face it, life is boring and nothing wild happens everyday. I think the real talent in making a successful series is having it mirror the slowness of daily lives.

If you watch Forbrydelssen, you may say 20 episodes is too long, but I enjoy the slow pace.
