Why does a kid his age need a nanny anyway?

Is he "special" in some way? He was 12 years old at least.

Most states arrest parents who leave their 12-year-olds alone all day and night. Even if they aren't "special" and for that reason, even a 12-year-old should theoretically have someone watch them if their parents are going to be gone for more than 60% of the day.

She stated to him when he wanted the job that she really just needed someone to drive and cook and clean a little. I have worked for family with young teenagers who couldn;'t drive yet, not that they needed a "babysitter" but just someone to be there and check on things.

It's also illegal in most states to leave a child between the ages of 10 or 12 and 15 or 16 alone for more than an hour or two. It's even worse if you leave a kid or teenager under the age of 18 alone overnight.
