About damned time! What were you doing on Dec. 3, 1984

On December 3, 1984, I would have been nearing the end of my third semester in college, with one more semester before heading off to university. That Xmas, a group of us students had planned a New Year's trip to Mexico, we were 17, 18, 19, 20, and were planning on lots of fun. Somewhere at the back of my mind, I remember... but this film should have been made years ago, it would have helped us remember.

I unfortunately watched this without English subtitles, so I was only able to truly follow half of the film's dialogues. But the acting and storytelling was sufficiently well done that I think I was able to comprehend the personal stories behind the tragedy.

I rate this 8/10.

I was 10 years old. I remember reading the newspapers about the leak. Bear in mind, this was the height of the cold war. The idea of nuclear annihilation was a constant specter looming over our heads. This scared me more than that. All other disasters (to my mind) had a plan, something to do in case of emergency. Hurricane? Tape the windows, wait out the storm. Earthquake? Duck and cover under a table. Nuke? Seek shelter in the nearest fallout shelter. The image of a toxic cloud, silent, invisible, sweeping through everywhere, killing everyone? Yeah, that screwed me up for a while.

Ya, I think we were all a little under the spell of mushroom fear. I had drawn a monster mushroom cloud in my room. sigh. :(
