Did you noticed that clever shot @ end ??


I m talking about the ending shot when the film ends, the camera zooms on the puzzle board of John's deceased wife, which he painstakingly wants to complete but still lays Unfinished, and then the camera veers to show you the sky above, which is all finished and perfect. The underlying meaning of it stands clear.. Awesomely done.

That's not how the version I was watching ended. In the ending I saw it panned from the prison up to the sky; there was no puzzle at all. That would have been nice, but I think the same thing is implied either way. In the ending I saw it was more subtle; you had to make the connection.

I just watched this and John and Teemsani (?) dismantled the puzzle. My take on that, based on the story he told immediately before hand is: it was symbolic for John that if they completed it, he says goodbye to his wife and her memory. Although, I suppose it could also mean he's willing to let his wife go finally.
