YOUr MOM PLays CArd games in hell

reply

The bad guys that used her at the brothel went to the farm to get her back/ They shot Elvis...bastards! and one of the baddies ending up shooting the other. John gets shot but survives. The cop turns up at the farm and it turns out he is a bad bugger and he shagged her and beaten her up whilst she was at the brothel. Long story short John finds her daughter and they get sent back to Afganastan (or so it is implied). I like happy endings and this could have been better, you know the fairytale.

reply

Actually, I think Tahmeena and Shahla go to live with John on his farm. That was my understanding because she first asks if they're going home soon, then asks if they got a new dog. John says "Yeah, we got a new dog."

It seems to me that John wouldn't have said "we got a new dog" if he was going back alone. So, the implication is that Tahmeena and Shahla are going back with him.

Okay, so maybe that's pretty flimsy. But, I think it would be the perfect ending: John finally finds love again, and Tahmeena and Shahla find a stable home after suffering so much hardship.

reply

I don't get why she was in jail in the first place after everything she went through. The cop is the one who should have been in jail if you ask me.

"I don't get why she was in jail..."

Not exactly a jail, a detention center for illegal aliens. She had been smuggled into the country by human traffickers. She would either be legally admitted or deported back to Afghanistan, hopefully with her daughter.

Send lawyers, Glocks, and money!

reply

Ah thanks. I totally missed that point. I remember several times John had said to her that she'd end up in jail if she got caught, so that's why I thought she was in jail. But what you said makes perfect sense. Thanks.

I'm assuming that he will marry her and adopt her daughter so they can stay together. At least I think that would make the happiest ending.

Not familiar with Australian law, but I agree that somehow he is going to sponsor/marry/somehow take the two women home with him eventually. So darn hard to understand what they are saying. I wish they would speak English....LOL. Pretty good movie!!

I know, if it weren't for subtitles, I wouldn't have "heard" a word! lol

Glad I'm not the only one that has problems understanding. I love the Aussies but boy are they hard to understand.

Did you ever see the movie The Sundowners? Robert Mitchum was one of the stars and I think he did a fantastic job at using the Aussie accent. He was a very talented actor!

Andy

reply

The Sundowners sounds very familiar, I think I have seen it many years ago. Robert, and Jim Mitchum were both very good actors. I did not remember about Robert using an accent, I think it's amazing when actors can do that!

reply

Yep! Acting is not all fun and games. Takes a lot of talent and a lot of work. Those people work months to hone their crafts. I just wish they would stick to acting and leave the politics to someone else.

Andy

reply

That's so true! When I hear something about a favorite actor that's political in nature, I can only think that I wish they wouldn't have said that. Sometimes I agree with them and sometimes I don't. I try not to judge them, but I think most people probably do, and so in a way, they're cutting their own throats when they speak out. Some actors will actually "live" their role, like say they're supposed to be a prisoner; they will get locked up, just so they can play their role more realistically, now that's dedication!

Did you ever see the movie Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman? Well, I understand that Dustin actually would scream to the top of his lungs in order to get the gravely voice he had as an old man telling the story. I think it was Lawrence Olivier in an interview talking about the movie said something to the effect, "why doesn't he just act?" I guess a dedicated actor does whatever he has to do to get into the roll.

Andy

reply

That sounds very familiar, I think I read about that also. And yes, I did see the movie when it came out years ago. Are you into mostly older movies or do you like the newer, more modern ones? Some of the old one still can't be beat! I love newer science fiction movies, but I wish if they're going to remake "War of the Worlds" they would have the decency to do a better damned job of it! LOL I still love the 1953 version the best, and I've seen them all, including the TV series.... what a farce THAT was!

Poyzunus 1

reply

I'd have to say that I prefer the older movies because they take me to a better place. People dressed nice instead of looking like street corner hoodlums. Although I can't see going to a baseball game with a suit and hat....LOL.

I loved the James Bond series even with all it's "that can't happen" scenes. I can accept them as probable, but the new movies filled with computerized imagery, just don't do a thing for me. Another thing that I have noticed is that in older movies with the "real stars of Hollywood", I could understand just about every word that was "muttered". Today it seems like they all mutter and I miss the point. Personally, I don't like sequels or remakes at all. I can't think of one that is better than the original.

Another thing; I don't believe that we will ever have Hollywood Icons ever again. As a matter of fact, there really aren't that many movies being made in Hollywood any more. I guess I'm just an old fart living in the past.

Andy

reply

Ha, I'm an old fart too, but I do like a lot of the newer movies. I'm a big fan of horror and sci-fi, and the FX nowadays can be amazingly mindboggling! Some CGI is just bad though, but if it's good, it's wonderful, and can really take you away. Some remakes aren't bad, but in a lot of cases; why make them? It's almost like an insult to the original. Now, in the case of Godzilla; the original is so horrible, that no matter what the remake is like, it's GOT to be better! LOL (and it IS).

Poyzunus 1

reply

For sure, the FX and CGI nowadays is absolutely fantastic. I agree. And wouldn't it be great if some of those early movies had better FX. Remember the smoke coming out of the back of a rocket on Flash Gordon...LOL. And Godzilla...OMG....LOL. Wasn't Raymond Burr in the original? But, I still say, although it might help, CGI cannot replace good acting. Let's face it. Realistically they can make a movie with CGI where the actors, their speech and all motions are completely CGI. I still say it degrades the art of acting....but it does present the viewing public with a much more enjoyable experience. Personally I'm not into SCI FI or horror.

Andy

reply

I'm into sci-fi and horror, but if they're too stupid or unbelievable, I lose interest. I like them when they make far-out things seem possible. I just watched "Sharknado" on Netflix, and it was so stupid, and so unbelievable that I could only give it a score of 2 stars. On the one hand it was so outlandish it was pure camp and probably will become a cult classic, but on the other hand, the acting and just the general goings-on were so far-fetched that they were only laughable. Now, a lot of people will praise movies like that because they are for sheer "party type pleasure'; just watch this ridiculous movie and laugh you ass off... which can be a good thing I guess. I like better entertainment though, even if it's bloodier and scarier. I think because I'm older now and not too enthused about riding roller coasters any more, I like to get my thrills from movies. I know movies are fake and no one or animal is actually being abused, so I enjoy being scared by them. I like comedies too, but so many of them just fall short, or they are just too slapsticky stupid for me. I like comedies that are well thought out and clever, not just adolescent humor and fart jokes... although Van Wilder was a hoot!! LOL There are exceptions to the rules, all the time. Some of my favorite sci-fi movies are; Alien, Aliens, Predator, The original War of the Worlds, of course, and I really want to get the new one called "War of the Worlds: The true story". I've read some good reviews of it today, and since I read the book many years ago, this one sounds like it might be even better than my beloved 1953 edition. I like a good drama every so often too, but they're really kind of boring for me, I like a lot of action. Doesn't need to be a lot of blood and gore, but it has to keep my interest. Some movies make me cry too, and I always tell my friends; I don't go to a movie to end up in tears! LOL

I too have Netflix on line and I know exactly what you mean. I haven't seen the particular movie you mention but have watched others. Makes me wonder why they were ever made, but true, they can make you laugh. I love good comedies too. Gee, we are dating ourselves. I saw the original War of the Worlds with Gene Barry in the theater myself. Scared the sh... out of me but not as much as Invaders from Mars. That movie with its pajama clad Martians had me running home scared. I would lie in bed imagining the flying saucer landing in front of our house. My favorite genre though is Westerns! I'm one of those that believe that when John Wayne died, the world really started to head down hill. Stupid I know, but I will watch The Searchers every chance I get. I just love the scenery presented in most westerns.

Andy

reply

Hi Andy,

So you were more scared by Invaders from Mars? LOL That one was not bad, but there are spots in it where you can see zippers on the back of the martians suits, and when they're running thru the tunnels, some of those walls have balloons in them, and as they run past, some of the balloons move with the wind! I like the creature in the glass dome though!

I like westerns too, my favorties are Tombstone, True Grit, The Long Riders, and so many others that I'm not remembering the names of! My whole family has always loved all the TV westerns too, and my two older brothers used to play at quick-drawing too. We used to all go out to the desert to shoot, years and years ago, don't even know if you can still do that sort of thing.

I actually live in the desert; not too far from where the "Gold City" scenes in How The West Was Won was filmed. Yeah, I used to spend many Saturdays with my buddies out shooting. I don't understand how all us old cowboy grew up playing Jessie James and the Sheriff and I never heard of on of our generation doing a mass shooting. The world has gone to pot and I blame the entertainment field for a lot of it.

Yeah....I remember the balloons on the wall moving. Stupid ass movie but those scenes where people would be swallowed up in the sand and the music they played just scared me to death. The creature in the glass globe was quite an effect for those days. I keep waiting for Invaders to be shown on TCM......I'll be sure to keep the lights on....LOL

Andy

reply

I've got it in my Netflix queue, just for old time's sake! Ha, it won't be coming anytime soon, but it will be fun to watch again. I don't get many TV stations, I hate TV; too many damned commercials! Even on the net now, you have to sit thru at least one ad just to see a news segment or anything! When will advertisers realize that most people don't pay much attention to ads, except to take a bathroom break, or mute them!

I'm not sure what desert you live in, don't know where "Gold City" scenes were filmed, I'm thinking CA. I live in Vegas, so I'm pretty much a desert rat now too. When I was a kid, the whole family used to go out to the desert, near Edwards AFB and shoot. I liked to find horny toads too, they're so cute. We had a few tortoises at one time too, I think my oldest brother might still have one.

We're not too far away from each other. I live across the river from Laughlin.

Some of the Gold City scenes were filmed in Oatman, AZ. I live in Bullhead City.

Vegas.....Hmmmm.....some Desert.....LOL. We visit there very often. How long have you lived there. Until around 2002 the last time I was in Vegas was in the early 70's. I had to take my father in law to McCarran and I could not believe what had happened....LOL. When I last visited Vegas in the 70's, I walked across the parking lot from the terminal....LOL. I loved the old movies that featured Vegas. There was a really old movie....I think it starred Victor Mature....not sure about that....it showed the airport at Las Vegas as a wooden shack.....LOL.

Just watched this and it really had me a bit traumatized there with the big showdown. What I got out of it was that Tameena was waiting for John to come with her daughter, and I got the impression that Shahla was with John, therefore the "we got a dog." I felt it was a detention center. Surely, if this were a true tale, Tameena would be granted asylum, regardless of whether John married her, but I do think they were as happily ever after as possible after their ordeals, individually and together. I'm so glad it ended happily. I was really anxious there for a bit, scared, actually. Good movie, in spite of the trauma on yours truly.
