Confusion?


The scene where the brothers find their mother and they sit in the room looking at eachother and the montage of the other characters begins. What were the brothers and the mom doing? Were they seriously just looking at eachother or was there more to it?

yeah i think that's what they were doing - the montage captures everything about them. how they're all mean to brendon, alice, and natalie portman's character and yet feel like they were wronged as well, how their father plays a huge role in their emotions towards one another, the things they came across in this journey, like rita and the funeral etc

in a filmmaking sense, it is also a way of driving narrative without talking, so i suppose wes anderson played on that and explicitly mentioned through his character that this was what they were going to do now - talk to each other about themselves.
