story behind Jack and the girlfriend

After seeing the short hotel movie before the Darjeeling limited movie and then watching the film, I was a bit confused about Jack and the girlfriends dialog. So, she hurt him, he ran off, she found him he said he hadnt been with anyone else...she might have been and then whats the status of their relationship? whats with her bruises?
