Macaulay Culkin can't act

If I ever needed an explanation as to why Macaulay Culkin hasn't had a real acting gig since he was a kid, it's this movie. If he has any acting talent it doesn't come through. But since the whole movie seems to be a bad example of forced amateur acting then maybe it's not his fault.

At least he seemed to be a different character than he was in Party Monster.

The dialogue in this film was really bad. Which kind of kills the film since it was/or at least seemed to be intended to revolve around it. I guess you can argue that better actors could've spun straw into gold with it all but I have my doubts.

Apart from the scene where Culkin's character is arguing in the car between his girlfriend and her ex, a lot of what is said in every other scene just comes across as unnatural, making it seem hard to believe that anyone converses so blandly like they did in this film.

Well, his character is indeed supposed to be that way: all akward, insecure, excessively understanding and always putting with his girlfriend's ideas (because of his own insecurity), lacking impulse, extremely mawkish... and that's what he did! when you hear the dialogues (even the other's dialogues) you can discover that he's supposed to be and to act that way, and he did it... I've seen him at other parts and he's completely different, yes, the movies isn't perfect, it could have been better developed, but I think he did his part as much as he could.

I thought his acting was very good.

I think the reason he only did a couple of indie movies once he wasn't a kid was because he didn't need the money and he was tired and fed up with Hollywood and the movie business.
