US and British troops Shooting People/Animals/Dogs

Some people found it hard to believe that US or UK soldiers would shoot dogs..

The occupying forces do much worse than shoot animals, There are countless accounts of torture, murder and rape. Recently there was the horrifying account of a girl been targetted and repeatedly raped and her entire family being shot dead whilst she was raped.. and then they shot her afterwards. -

"A US soldier has agreed to plead guilty in the rape of a 14-year-old girl and the murder of her and her family in the Iraqi town of Mahmudiya last year.

Sgt Paul Cortez will no longer face the death penalty and has agreed to co-operate in the trials of three other men, his lawyer said.

A fifth man, Spc James Barker, pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced to life in prison.

The case is one of several in which US troops are accused of killing Iraqis.

Prosecutors say the five plotted the attack on the girl and her family.

The soldiers are accused of breaking into the girl's home, raping and murdering her, and then killing her parents and her six-year-old sister.

"Sgt Cortez is going to go in and accept the responsibility for his part in what occurred," his lawyer William Cassara said. "

Iraqi villagers blame British soldiers' 'brutal' searches for massacre

"As soon as they saw the British, dogs every beast in the village began barking like mad," said Mohammad Aziz, 51. "My dog, Reddy, did the same and one of the officers got nervous and pointed his pistol at him. I said, ‘Please don’t shoot my dog’ and tried to get in the way, but then another soldier shot him twice. Why did they have to do that? Can’t the British understand that it upsets us?"

Nothing i read about soldiers and the way they treat people surprises me. Most of them are so full of themselves. And most of them enjoy the power and control they have over other people.

True these are just the incidents we hear about, I think there are likley to be loads of incidents of rape and torture and by this I'm not just referring to the British & American armies but to armies in Eastern & other countries as well. Whilst there are many good soldiers that are trying to do good, there are also many bad ones that abuse their position. They are no better off than the rapists and murderers on the streets.

There are far too many cover ups in the army and far too many instances of younger soldiers being Court Marshalled for carrying out 'orders' Although, in this particular film, Shane was right to be Court Marshalled - he didn't seem to need much persuading to carry out the things he did to those two hostages he was in charge of. It's the soldiers with more responsibility who need punishing (Corporals, Majors, etc)

I fin it hard to believe that people are more horrified by the dog being shot (which btw it wasn't really in the film) than the awful brutality that the civilians face. I really do love my dog, but how can that be more shocking than the abuse and torture faced by the people.

Civilians doesnt understand what pressure these boys are facing.
Imagine your best friends getting fried by some RPG or IED,and you are 18-19 years old with guns.....what would you do?
Stop pointing fingers at someone unless you have been in their shoes.

weak minded people would bend to the grind and abuse prisoners.

Taking out frustration on unarmed civilians is never right.
There are tonnes of people that have been through much worse and still committed to acts of decency and kindness.

Plenty of people that were in their shoes haven't done what they did. Boils down to the type of people the army attracts. They aim for teenagers with lives that lead nowhere.. just look at their ad campaigns, easy enough to see.

Guys like that don't have the capacity to think past violence.
