SO DISAPPOINTED.

Funny story actually. I was watching a few movies in theaters last year, and two or three times I had seen this preview before it started. It always looked so good. Well, after I realized it should have opened the week before, I asked the manager of the movie theater why it wasn't there. He told me it was only in select theaters (which is stupid, because it was previewed). I decided to wait until it came out on VHS (it took long enough).

To make a long story short, I'm glad I didn't watch it in theaters, and I feel sorry for anyone who did. It was dumb. It actually looked promising until they were at the house and they realized there were other people there besides the 2 couples...from then on out it was bad. It started out like it could be freaky though. Too bad.

At least it was fun to mock, lol. But yeah, very, very stupid movie. For starters, as the OP said, it looked promising at the beginning, then quickly went downhill. I felt like I was having all these horror clichés thrown at me too early in the movie-- it just didn't work (though the clichés wouldn't have worked regardless of how far into the movie it was. They were just flat out bad).

One thing I liked about it was that it played on the fact that they were all guilty of murder, and taunted them with that (the guy seeing his past self ignore his daughter which lead up to her drowning, the other guy seeing him shoot his dad(?), ect). But other than that, it was pretty disappointing. Though I wonder if I would have liked it more if I'd been paying more attention, because as the movie seemed to drag on, I found myself getting distracted by everything around me that wasn't the tv, LOL.

Agreed angelface! The trailer is so enticing. They had me with God came into my house and I killed him line!...or something like that. I rented the crap for 4.99 On Demand....I'm still mad as hell!

I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Agreed. This movie is sooo crap. The only part I like was that all of them are guilty of something.

VHS? Are they still releasing movies on tape? Why don't you just spend the $30 on a DVD player?

I think what a lot of viewers are missing is the fact that this is a book turned movie.
If you don't understand the movie perhaps you should go to the library and check out the book (It would be free that way.).
I have yet to read the book (and probably won't due to my intolerance for being scared). My brother really enjoyed the book and was disappointed by the movie. But I really enjoyed the movie.

I have read an excerpt from the book, and it reads like a terrible horror movie too. Here are some reviews on amazon by people who aren't blinded by Dekker & Peretti's earlier works:
