I was really let down by this movie. I've seen Big Adventure enough times I annoy anyone that watches it with me by saying the all the lines in advance of the person saying them.

Pee Wee was way too nice and it was confusing if this was for kids or adults.
That said the "Big Adventure" Pee Wee was more mean, selfish, mean-spirited and annoying.That is what makes that character hilarious. Even in the children's show he carried over that type of personality except with less adult humor and the cliche "lesson" learned at the end of the show.

After watching Holiday both myself and my 6 year old son agreed we needed to put on Adventure to wash the taste of Holiday out of our mouths.

I actually noticed he was rather snarky to some of folks in Dan's Diner and they didn't even pick up on it or seem to care. We also saw him, even though the scene seemed totally out of place, reject the librarian girl when asked on a date. I know what you mean about Pee-wee's behavior, but I don't think he is mean necessarily. He is just...childish. He acts like a child before they learn to speak to people, or exhibit etiquette.

Big Adventure is alot to live up to. The production had big shoes to fill, 30 years later no less. I think Big Holiday should probably serve as a disappointment to Pee-wee fans, but it didn't totally disavow us.
