I enjoyed it, despite its many flaws

Poor pacing, too much of an attempt to appeal to our "adult" sides (movie was made for us despite being a children's character), the gay-ish innuendos, not enough jokes that really hit the mark etc...

But the sense of childish adventure, the oddball atmosphere, the encouragement to use your imagination - all those things are still there and Reubens' still got it!

Hope they make another sequel, I think it's justified. It just needs to be a little more than this one.

I took the undertones as "Big brother/little brother" MAYBE "father/son".
I suggest they "mature" Pee-Wee as everyone in Fairville can't be too comfortable
with a 60 year old man child wearing the same style clothing waking up with the help of a Rube Goldberg device running through and involving some in the neighborhood.

I give the trailor an A. But the movie a C-. Had lots of potential. Had much the same feel as first but the gay innuendos and it enough hit jokes (exactly as OP stated) are reasons for my disappointment. Even the opening with the ET creature missed.

......Zing!
