Why This movie wont be made.

This movie will not be made for SO many reasons. If you polled 100 children under the age of 14, how many of them would actually know who Pee wee is? The show is not on TV anymore. You some times catch the movies on cable, but most kids would rather watch something else. When I tried to get my sister to watch it when she was younger, she was totally uninterested. And it's not just my sister. There is a whole generation of kids out there who have no idea about this show, or what it meant for popular culture back in the day. The hardest part about selling this movie, is convincing studio heads that anybody who wasn't around when the show was first aired is going to pay $10 to see it.

reply

Absolutely 100% WRONG. 30 year old male here who will try to see it on it's opening day. 10 and 6 year old daughters at home who love my Playhouse DVD's and will be right by my side to see it. I think Big Top Pee-Wee has been spun 30+ times in my house for crying out loud, and Adventure more than 50 times. This is going to be for the people who grew up with it and need another taste, and even more for those same people who have children of their own now.

i agree with you-i have an 8 year old son that loves pee-wee

reply

Pee Wee-lalalala-hehe...
He is one of the funniest and absurdest characters I ever seen.
I LOVE Pee Wees big adventure-its the pure cult movie like Cheech and Chong
and I hope Pee Wee get the chance to make a movie like Big adventure for the adult generation.
Where are all the good comedians from the eighties? This was a decade with the best comedy/cult movies!
Today there is sadly no one like Cheech and Chong or Pee Wee!!

reply

funkydizzy i put a video on You Tube of when i was able to meet Mr. Reubens, - since i feel exactly as u do - and have 2 daughters that also love him.

reply

LOTS of kids have been introduced to Pee-Wee, and they LOVE him! Nicely put!

WAY out of line ! You have a pretty sick sense of "humor"...

You weren't THAT hard to track down, Sharpnova, and I wonder if every other member would like to see what a TROLL looks like....Your comment is outrageous and NOT funny....I suggest you apologise....

reply

I thought it was funny. Outrage culture is the worst. I suggest you don't apologize.

I agree that this could be made and be somewhat successful. A ton of now adults who grew up with P.W. will go and see it, maybe bring the kids along. Sure, it may be a hard sell to those who have never heard of him, but that is what creative marketing is for.

reply

Actually, you'd be surprised. Have you actually watched the show or the movies recently? They're filled with TONS of adult humor that sails right over the kid's heads.

reply

Yeah and the show is still on tv on Adult Swim

reply

i'm 15 and love pee wee...can't wait to see this

Playhouse was actually a spin-off of The Pee-wee Herman Show, which aired on HBO, and was an "adult comedy special" (Wikipedia) with often racy humor that definitely wasn't for kids.

reply

I have to admit, I wasn't more than a twinkle in my dad's eye when the first movie came out (I was born in 86) But I do remember enough of playhouse to want to see the movie. I always thought Paul Reuben got a bad rap with the whole movie thing, just because he was famous. As other mentioned, his humor was racy to begin with, and he went to see a dirty movie. Big deal. However, I really thought he did an amazing job in Blow, and would love to see him come into bigger and better things. Long live Peewee Herman, and long live Paul Reuben. Boo, Mystery Men, however.

That's why this movie would be great, you can take the kids. My Niece who is 21 loves Peewee. She now understand the humor besides the creativity. How cool would that playhouse be in the year 2008.

thats true too!!! although i haven't watched the show since i think the late 80's....or was it still on in the early 90's...i don't remember....

reply

oh my god yes. who the hell would really have a character like Miss Yvonne with such huge boobs?! i the old fans like us would be the first in line but its not a necessity to see the show first. im sure they recognize this and will make it so its not like picking up where they left off. most tv movies like this are newbie friendly

That is absolutely true, freudianjedi. As a kid I never noticed the jokes or humor, only the playfulness and the fun. But when I got older and they put it back on adult swim, I was blown away at the fact that everything just went over my head. And those are the best kinds of shows because audiences of all ages can watch and enjoy.

Pee Wee is a legend, always and forever. There will never be another show or character like this one. He is severely underrated and that really sucks because there are a lot of us out here who would love to be able to watch him do his thing.

I think your analysis is correct. It's sad, because Paul Reubens is a great talent. I think he'd be better off at this point trying to get serious roles. His performance in " Blow " showed he can carry himself well in serious roles. Unfortunately, " Peewee is passe! "

reply

why would it have to be a kid's movie? have you seen the hbo special? not exactly kids stuff, even the first movie wasn't exactly a "kid's" movie, although it could entertain them as well

reply

Haha Gotta agree on that one. Big Top Pee Wee: "That one looks like a train going into a tunnel!" Haha. Not exactly kids stuff. Needless to say i grew up with Pee Wee and, to this day, i laugh and enjoy watching old episodes and movies. If this movie is actually being made, make damn sure I'll be there to see it opening night.

reply

I'm die-ing to see it.(not literally).

reply

who said the show and /or movie is for kids anyway. Dumass! it's a cult classic!

reply

I used to love watching Pee-Wee every Saturday morning when I was a kid. Used to get up and watch it every week. Though I might see it in theater I will definetly watch it. HAHA. Glad to see Pee-Wee back, its about time.

reply

Didn't Paul Reubens say that his new movie was going to be dark? I remember reading a little bit about it in an interview, but that was almost a year ago, so maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

I was born in 1991 and when I was about 4 years old, I got a Play-House tape and a recorded copy of Big Adventure. Let me tell you something about that, I watched them intill the film in the tapes wore out! I'm a Pee-Wee fan and I'm definally seeing this on it's opening day. My best buddy is a Pee-Wee fan too and he said he'll see it with me. Now, I got pretty much everything of Pee-Wee on video except the Play-House Christmas Special, which I'm currently looking for. Other than that, I got everything of his, except the suit! Lol, just kidding.

reply

i disagree...i'm almost 21 years old (i will be this september) and i used to love this showed and i am thrilled about this movie...i don't car ehow old i am when it officially is released in theatres....my brother who will be 33 also in september would also want to see it and i am almost positive that his one year old daughter will grow to love the show too if we get her to watch it sinc ewe all love the show...as a matter of fact, my brother does one of the best pee wee herman impressions and i crack up whenever he does them....

reply

Actually a lot of children these days know who Pee Wee Herman is. They most likely know him through their parents. And I'm sure their parents who grew up watching Pee Wee will love to see this movie and will get their children to see it. Also, this movie isn't really meant for the younger generation, it's meant for the kids who grew up watching Pee Wee.
