So what do you think of SC Conviction?

From what you have seen so far. Here's both the trailer and gameplay for those who haven't seen it.

I prefer the classic stealth gameplay, I'll approach this new title with an open-mind.

Mind you that footage is very old, the game was subsequently delayed for two years. The finished product will hopefully be a lot better (ie the animation is horrible in those clips). I hope that Ubi Montreal have taken onboard the criticisms of Assassin's Creed (repetitive gameplay, *beep* side-missions, etc) and the recent Prince of Persia game (it's really easy, you literally cannot ever die.), in-order to avoid those mistakes with Conviction.

Too bad they have already scrapped this. They are starting over from scratch for some reason they decided this wasn't working.

I thought it looked cool, and I welcome new styles to gameplay, apparently they have started over so all of this footage is irrelevant.

reply

Oh thanks for letting me know Dimebag!!! I guess that makes me feel better. I will still keep the videos anyway however, for people to see and comment on them.

reply

If they are smart about it they won't ditch it entirely, they can keep all the work they poured into what they had and create a new stealth action game franchise.

reply

@DimebagDarrell
Most game developers already do that.

reply

It would be stupid of them not to, they need to make that money spent on development back somehow.

reply

Dimebag, glad to see ya again and glad to be back on this board. I just saw the E3 Trailer of it and it looks *beep* ing bad ass dude. I am so psyched for it, and judging by the footage it seems that they did what they said they did and that is take the game back to the drawing boards. It looks *beep* awesome man, especially with the whole different take on it while keeping the same aspect of the originals.

reply

Just watched a gameplay demo. What can I say? Insane? Ridiculous? Bad ass?

Still has that Splinter Cell feel with infiltration and stealth gameplay but more action thrown in too. It looked like an action movie. I hope it plays as good as it looks because it looks awesome.

I love how they were able to put the objectives on in the game itself like on the buildings, walls and floors. What'd you think of the mark and execute style ? I think it looks pretty cool, I might end up thinking this will be as good as Chaos Theory (which is the best one) or quite possibly be the best Splinter Cell ever. Which is a shame to the Sony Boys and all. But I think its fair game since we didn't get MGS4 and they did, than its only fair to have Splinter Cell Conviction and they don't. I am also happy to see the story of Splinter Cell continue with Raiden and that its coming out on the 360 as well.

Ooops *beep* sorry about that. I usually check what I type before sending it out, I must have missed that. I agree, it could possibly end up being better than Chaos Theory which in my opinion was the best in the series. That's the only one that I can play, besides the original that still has replay value.

Shame is they took out all the core stealth that made splinter cell awesome

no more moving/hiding bodies

sam can now make absolutely 0 sound while crouched. the whole ghost sam thing that pops up to show the last known position that sam was spotted is moronic

I hate to be the party crasher here, but as much as I like Splinter Cell, the Convictions trailer came across as a poor man's 24/Bourne - and I don't like either of those two series. One of the best things about Splinter Cell, is that it offered something original and realism.

On a side note, it totally looks like AD Williams is going to be the JBA mole or something like that.

I like how they showed the disadvantage of not being able to jump at the players will. considering how often the enemy missed and I only noticed he got shot a few times yay for regenerative health I guess. I cant believe the enemy would miss when they're so close even if on normal.

Anyone else see how Mr. Mohawk saw Sam and yet did nothing just let Sam kill the guards at the very beginning? So can't stealth that mission whatsoever. Also looks like Conviction may suffer from what the R6V series suffers AI wise. The room where Sam shoots down the EMP device, the last guy Sam kills in there is shooting at Sam without looking at him or pointing his gun at him.

Guys, this is early footage.
Over analizing it and nit-picking is a more than a little stupid at this point.
They still have months to iron out certain elements and polish others.

This is a game they started, scrapped and re-started. You do not do something like that unless you intend to make the game a great as possible. Otherwise they would have released this game 2 years ago.

Let's wait till closer to release next year before the analising starts eh?

in terms of story Conviction is a huge step back comparing to Double Agent. But in terms of fun and action, achievements and addons it is the best- I can easily play muliplayer on my crappy computer with just 1-2 clicks.Customization is fantastic.

What I disliked was the poor story, because Sam is once again a flat one dimensional character, poor interaction and not that convincing gta-style comic book animations.

They did this for money, not for developing the series. A huge step back, but I admit it IS fun.
