So okay...his father was Numbah Zero, okay simple. His Grandfather used to be evil and his uncle is Father.
But did Numbah 1 not know he had an uncle? At the very end Numbah 1's dad and grandfather were talking to each other and it kind of seemed that Father didn't exist

Wild guess was that there was still a rift between the brothers. I mean look at their houses and where they are, families can be torn apart like that, basically just estranged brothers. Also, Numbuh Zero seemed to retain much of his good humor and care even as he became an adult.
The thing is too that trying to get the book would have been a nightmare, he'd have to re-comission his brother to figure out where it is and it's pretty much plain that Zero is the more capable of the two.
There are few things more confusing than hearing someone say, "I forgot the midget."
