father was such a cool villain! this movie made him into a total pu$$y! not to mention they could've had an awesome fight between him and grandfather, but they made him go get rocky road...and he sounded so much cooler in his 'costume'

Yeah, I thought they did the Father character an injustice by making him a pussy. I was excited to see what'd he do on the good side of the playing field for a change even if it was only temporary. It was a great movie but I'd love a great battle b/w Father and Number 0 vs. Grandfather would have made this movie a unquestioned 10 to me.

Part of it is that deep down Father is a wimp, a bully. He only fights when he believes he has the upper hand and holds the power. Notice that the minute he sees a balanced fight or is outgunned he starts falling apart. He has to win, otherwise he sees no point in playing the game.

^ Exactly. There's really no difference between Benedict when he's himself and when he's Father except for appearance and voice; his personality and attitude is basically the same.

Personally, however, I almost think that Father could have won if he had chosen to fight, and while I disagree with the fight not having been allowed to happen, I understand the point of having it occur the way it did to show and contrast the challenges facing Nigel on the moonbase and Monty back on Earth.

I do think that that was some of it. Also, it helps to differentiate the brothers, one of them is willing to sacrifice himself for his son and the future of the world. The other cares only about himself and decides that, though his 'children' were in danger would rather just ignore the situation and wallow in self pity.

I'm pretty sure Father would have won, too. There was definitely fear in Grandfather's eyes when Father had all the fire behind him. However, Benedict's got major daddy issues. He was always used to being looked down upon, and eventually resigned himself to being the second-fiddle. It explains his resentment towards his brother, and the way he just gave up. He wanted Daddy's acceptance, and all that, but whatever he did, he couldn't get it. S'plains why he just said "screw it" at the end, and left without fighting.

He's not a pussy, so much as he's still a kid who fears Daddy and figures he'd never do anything to change himself in his father's eyes.
