Its now october... Anybody heard anything about it?

No nothing onfortunately...

They better not screw this up. The books are really movie-material, but I´m not sure they can find a nordic director good enough to pull this off.

It´s called the american dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

Saw some information on another site where one of the people working on the set design revealed that shooting will start during the spring, approximatly around march.

reply

Cool. Where did you read this?

reply

I think I read it here: http://www.historiska.se/histvarld/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3756

Quite funny topic, one of the set designers asks for help.

reply

Hmm... Hehe, yeah. And then they go COMPLETELY off-topic :)

Nice to hear they are starting the production soon though.

nice!

Joakim Nätterqvist to play the part as Arn? Heard it today, who is he? Any good?

reply

Is he going to play Arn for sure? I've only heard rumours, but if it's so, that's great, he's an absolutely amazing actor. Would almost be sad he wouldn't be doing any theatre during when they shoot the movie! x)

But, yeah, he's a brilliant actor :)

reply

It's confirmed now. I've never seen the guy act though?
Just read that the estimated 210 million SEK is down to 150... A bad omen?

reply

Yeah, I read it too.. And luckily it seems the budget is still on 210 million!

It's great for the project to get such a good actor, I have no doubt he'll make an brilliant Arn.

reply

Maybe you read it as 150m danish kroner which is probably around 210m swedish kroner.
I am thrilled that Mads Mikkelsen is mentioned as the king of denmark. Awesome. I hope its true.

reply

Shooting begins january? Is that final? If it is I'm assuming they already cast the actors. Love to get in on it so I'm just throwing out a bone if anybody knows who's casting? Thx.

reply

According to Expressen, Harvey Keitel has now been attached to the project and has a major role. Don't remember my Arn that well so who do you think he will play that has a major role and also is non-nordic ?

reply

Damn... This movie could be so cool if everything goes right. I mean if they get Mads Mikkelsen and Harvey Keitel, they are some great actors! Although I fear that this could be a new Hamilton = decent american b-actionmovie, but I surley hope that that´s not how its going to be.

reply

Harvey Keitel? Really? Maybe he will play Guy de Lusignan or Gerard de Ridefort.

reply

Perhaps the Monk who teaches Arn how to fight? I read that latin is being changed to english in this film.

reply

I read that latin is being changed to english in this film.

That's pathetic!

reply

I agree, the reason was apparently that not many actors speak latin well... I guess they must've missed the fact not many people understand latin at all, and so wouldn't be able to tell if they pronounced it correctly. Besides, swedes speaking english is usually a lot worse than I would imagine swedes speaking latin to be :)

Just look at Passion of the Christ, I won't discuss the movie as such but I think the dialogue in the correct languages worked (even though the actors were not fluent in those).

reply

According to the New York Times Michael Madsen has been considered for the part of Birger Brosa and Fares Fares as Saladin. The article also mentioned something about a parts for Dolph Lundgren and the swedish strongman Magnus Samuelsson!

Ok, for all you swedes out there, here is a first report from the first days of shooting in Marocco.

And to top it all, a first picture of Joakim Nätterqvist as Arn in the Holy Land:
