decent with some puzzling flaws. Similar to a bollywood movie

Recently watched this because Netflix recommended it and I found the first few episodes of the six parter very interesting and engaging than the latter.

They had a lot of story to tell and they crammed it all.
It also veered between wanting to be epic and not wanting to be. Maybe a combo or budget decision and director whims. Still, it was well done for the most for the package.

The initial char development was decent with Arn growing up. However, the love interest felt like it wanted to be a romance with action but later it took a back seat to the drama aspect.

A few puzzling things were character aging wasn't handled well.
Arn looked boyish inspite of 25+ years having passed. The girl Cecilia looked like in her 40s right from the start. She is pretty but seems to have an injury on her right chin and lip which seemed to lessen with episodes.

Eskil aged well but not blanka nor brosa nor few others.

The death also seemed abrupt and without any emotion. Even her eventual meet up with Arn wasn't that rewarding.

Jerusalem parts were the best especially with the excellent Saladin portrayal by Milind Soman. The final parting between Al Ghouti and Saladin was very emotional and touching. They had the best chemistry.

Finally, I felt this movie resembled the overall theme of a Bollywood movie called Khuda Gawah from 1992.
An afghan warrior falls in love with a girl, marries her but leaves her to go to India after wedding night. He promises to return to her and she promises to wait for him. The motions are conveyed through a good song where he says 'I will return back to you even if I die'. It is well picturized and makes the audience emotionally connect with them.

He spends a long time in India in jail and meanwhile she has a daughter from that wedding night. Eventually he gets back to her but dies in the end similar to Arn but his death is much more epic.

Overall, Arn was well done, good in parts and a decent overall effort.

Final rating 7.5/10

Bollywood? Unless there is a song and dance number that I missed, it's not at all like a Bollywood movie. :P

Good analysis, I pretty much agree with everything you said.
