How does season mode work?

I played Kurt Angle's season for about 3 weeks and then comes the part in the season where Kurt gets assulted backstage by a guy carrying a pipe. And then I lost the subsequent fight against Batista. And then the credits suddenly rolled so I had tried to replay the season and it took me back to where I get traded brands.

So how does season mode work? Do I just keep fighting and fighting and make sure I don't lose?

Is there any way to control whether or not I get traded brands by my manager (Shane or Teddy)?
