A better ending....

The servant was walking around the house and reminiscing to herself about the memories left behind. Add to that the wonderful music being played while you was walking about, that would have been a great ending.

The kids having a party there at the end was just too disconnected for me.

not a bad ending you suggest, and it actually felt like that would be it. BUT when you really think about what happens at the party then you appreciate it more.

the young daughter takes her boyfriend away from the others. reminisces about growing up in the house, the paintings. cries because she felt a loss by the house being sold. at no point before did we get a sense that any of the children had become attached to the house. also the revelation that the grandmother told the grand daughter that she would bring her own kids one day to the house. o man that was beautiful. cue the music....LOVED the ending.

The ending works I think because it just contrast modernism and traditional living.

I quite liked the party ending. The partying youth can be viewed as a symbol that life goes on. Also, it was moving to see how the young girl felt sorry about the house being sold and the fond memories she had of her grandmother.
