Will it ever be released in US theaters?

I've just watched this and oh my GOD. If it's not released here in the US, I'm moving to Canada.

There's no plans for a theatrical release. That would require a distributor and financing, etc. and Filmax has never announced any plans to do that. They are working on their next film, Mr. Collieu. However, it's being shown at the New York International Children's Film Festival right now:

I bought it on DVD for $30 in the English Dub. The DVD case is in French, but the menu texts and film audio are in English, however there are no English subtitles. The disc is Region 2 so it requires a region-free player (most laptops have this, or higher-end DVD players) but the audio and visual quality and great. I love this movie!

It's too bad it never came to America but in a country dominated by animated films like Shrek, how can you expect something so artsy to succeed?

Anyways, if you want more info. on the DVD, just ask!

You don't have to get mad (if you were mad, that is) but this film was completed before 2007, actually, and was never intended for an overseas audience. The fact it even got an English audio dub surprised many animation commentators. The showing at the NY Children's Film Fest is the best you're going to get for a several-year old movie. (The 2007 date is not correct).

Movies rarely get picked up after several years of being out. Especially if they're animated. Even more especially if they are on DVD somewhere. Even, even more especially if they didn't have huge followings in their country of origin.

Even though I'd love for more people to see this, there's just not going to be an effort to get this in theaters. Barely anyone knows about it. The producers aren't pursuing it. The dub is nice but not superb enough to support the film well in theaters.

But if you really feel strongly about it, write a very detailed letter to a company like Disney asking them to pursue it. They've pursued the Ghibli films, Burton animations, Pokemon films, etc. If they think that this film could do well enough, they may work on it.

I saw this today at the Kids Eurofilm Festival in Washington DC. The theatre was fairly large but was less than half full (despite free admission)and was mostly parents with small children. They showed the English dubbed version with Spanish subtitles which made sense since the intended audience was children. I'd be interested in seeing it in Spanish, but I would need English subtitles. It sounds like the DVD has the English dub but not English subtitles so I guess this is not an option.
