It's A Good Movie

ST:OGAM is a good movie for a lot of reasons: we get to see our favorite characters again, a few good space-battles, good story (I don't want to post any spoilers here.) There were a couple parts that seemed a little too sugarcoated, but those moments are easily overlooked. So, all-in-all, this was a great effort, and, if the folks at Renegade would be so kind, I'd be delighted to watch more of their Star Trek films.

Oh God you have to be joking.... This was the most pathetic attempt at film making I think I have ever seen and for someone who considers him self a Star Trek Fan saying anything good about it is completely surprising to me.

A Terrible story

Very Poor Directing and Writing

The worst CGI I Have ever Seen, How can you say "good space-battles"

I would have to think you were involved somehow to say anything good about this.

The only thing in this travesty that was ok was seeing Some of the people, which is where they went wrong with the whole thing, It would have been better to write a story that had nothing to do with the original characters or at least have them in little parts so they didn't have to pay so much and put some money in to some production value.

They could have tried to raise more money before starting production

The Final insult of the whole thing is introducing the new ship which is an exact model of the original with antiquated equipment even if it was some sort of "Tribute" It would never had been put in service it would have been a museum piece.
This is from what I can tell a decent effort just from the actors that are in it. How they talked them in to embarrassing them selves that way takes some amazing manipulation.

I thought that the movie was OK. Yes there were problems but I still think that it was enjoyable and a good effort from the small amount of money that had to make this. Great to see some familiar faces one last time.

YES it is a good movie it was done on a short budget and everyone gave their own time to do this movie.

I for one will get a dvd made of this and add it to my star trek movie collection along with star trek phase 2

cheers mate, i'm with you on that one ..

Um, did you even watch it? It is very clearly said that the new ship IS a museum.

I think a true Star Trek fan would enjoy any movie about Star Trek. A true fan won't turn his head from something that wasn't up to par with the other movies in special effects or acting. A true fan will appreciate the actors getting together to make a story for them to watch.

When life gives you lemons, use them to make a lemon powered robotic army to enslave the world.

I liked the premise of Gary Mitchell VS. Charlie X!

the premise is cool but they carry out sucked.

Damn straight. I love all these fan movies, and this one is not even really a fan movie...sort of quasi-professional. I used to have dreams regularly that there was ONE MORE old Star Trek episode out there that I hadn't seen yet...thanks to the internet, my dreams have come true!

Loved "I'm a freedom fighter, not a doctor." That made me laugh out loud
Good tribute to McCoy.

All the philosophical stuff was great, too, very TOS.

This gave some of the Trek actors a chance to show their stuff more than they ever did in the older series, like Walter Koenix, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang, and Nichelle Nichols.

I hope they make another one some day!

Whereas I'd counter that 'true fans' (a stupidly devisive and elitist term to begin with that I've never personally liked) wouldn't accept just any old rubbish simply because it had the Star Trek name attached to it in some way. That so-called 'true fans' would rather have something done well, or not done at all, rather than being spoon fed mediocrity (or worse). But that's just my take on things, in a devil's advocate kinda way.

As a wise man once said: Have the humility to accept praise when it is worthy, but have the courage to also endure critique when it is deserved. Therein lies the way to enlightenment.

I loved it. You must be an idiot.

It was awesome.

Garret Wang - loved him!! So much better than his Voyager character.

kinda missing the point there ..the space battle was good but the cgi was bad,if they had the money to pay for top end sfxs the battle would have been excellent..
dont confuse bad sfx with good film making

It is certainly OK for others to have enjoyed this movie, and it is also OK that you didn't. It doesn't require ripping it apart.

I could go into a detailed critique of the movie and tear it apart but that wouldn't be necessary, kind or fair. I'm glad people enjoyed the movie; personally I found it unwatchable and barely got through ten minutes of it and I'm a hardcore ST fan. But I'm not going to crap on it.

However, it's OK that people enjoyed it; it is also OK that you didn't. Sometimes I enjoy poorly made movies, sometimes I don't. In this case I didn't.

Sounds like a comment on the Abrams film.

The movie is flawed at its core. In "City On the Edge of Fortever", the episode that this is a sort of sequel to, when McCoy goes back in time and changes history, those on the planet were unaffected by those changes. In this movie when Charlie goes back, the changes he made affect those standing in front of the Guardian. Is there an explanation for this, or was it just an oversight by the writers?

I really enjoyed it. You have to take into account what the film is though. It's a low budget non-commercial tribute piece. Part way between a fan movie and a made for TV movie. Sure the 60s style ships seemed odd, but then they worked better with the cheap effects than if they were to use updated movie era ships. The design seemed a bit like what I would have expected had they made a Star Trek movie in the 60s.

I liked the new ship designs for the alternate timeline and the focus on the TOS Constitution class. It seems to me the whole reason for using the museum angle was simply to save costs and not have to create two Starfleet bridge sets (given the original timeline ship was essentially only there to bring the three protagonists together and transport them to the Guardian). Having a Constitution class Enterprise in the altered timeline made perfect sense.

It was also rather cool to see actors from TOS, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise all working together. I think for most fans, that in itself would be enough to make watching this worthwhile.

Pretty much agree. Non-Star Trek fans probably won't be converted with this effort which is okay because it wasn't made for them.

It was an okay fan made movie for fans of Star Trek which happened to be many of the actors/actresses who were cast in the different series and /or movies.

I believe it's a good movie as well. Something of a 40th anniversary with a lot of ties to season 1 storylines. One thing that didn't impress me, and that goes for most high-dollar thrillers and sci-fi today, is the CGI effects. I never really like them, but that's just personal taste I would guess. Carefully planned modelling and camera work always impressed me more, even if some of it was a little cheesy or you saw the wires.

I think I'll watch it again this weekend.
