Holy Hell! I just watched a couple minutes of the trailer and I am simply at a loss for what to say. I do not think that I know enough negative words to accurately sum up what it was that I witnessed; terrible doesn't quite cut it here. I've seen trash... Hell I watched StarShip Troopers 2! The bit I watched looked so bad that they would have laughed Star Trek off the air, back in the day, if this was the tripe thhy were putting out.
And what the hell is with having Tim Russ (Tuvok) at the helm of this disaster? So he directed one episode of voyager, he thinks he can pull a Frakes, Nemoy, or Shatner? We have to hope that maybe Star Trek XI will deliver where this one disappoints, so in other words, everywhere.

You do realize that this is a fan film?

"It's no Fan Film. These are only desperate people trying to make money on fans." - genremedia

Ummm...How are they expected to make money off fans if this project is going to be distributed online for free?

yet funnily enough... places like Star Trek New Voyages WHICH HELPED this production had an understanding with Paramount long before the merger.... and this was in the works LONG BEFORE the CBS MERGER... so shut ur fracking face and learn the facts before u open ur smegging mouth. advertising on webspace is no crime. no profit is made from the name of Star Trek.

RODDENBERRY ON PATROL was selling fine before Star Trek: Of Gods and Men came along and its not like films dont do that

FROM 2/3 OF THE CREATORS OF SCARY MOVIE - EPIC MOVIE
FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU LOVE, ACTUALLY

give me a break... HOLLYWOOD DO IT ALL THE TIME WHEN PROMOTING NEW STUFF

I have to study this as part of my course. They're not comclomorating off already existing material. So research before u speak

You and Deckle are both wrong. It is not a FAN Film and the actors involved are not "Hard Up" for money. Nor are they capitolizing on the Star Trek name to take your money. Most of the negative comments made here are by folks so completely ignorent, of the stated goals, of the actors and crew, that an objective comment is nearly impossable.
If you have, recently, visited the web site, you would see that the production team has delayed the release so that effects can be re-tooled.
If you know nothing about the process of making films, you should keep your ignorent comments to your self. If you want to comment on Plot/story or character development, at least wait until the project is released. Anything else is an insult to the cast and crew while also demonstrating the depth and breadth of your own ignorence.

reply

Why do you say such a thing? If you researched, then you would know that this project is entirelly non profit. The video will be released for free, the actors only does it out of goodwill and so on.

You really should investigate before posting such moronic crap.

So was the Star Trek vs. Star Wars video on youtube.com and it looks better than this p.o.s. in every aspect, while this looks like it was made with the intentions of destroying the series' name.

yeh well from waht i know that trailer was rushed together to keep people going... granted it doesnt do that.

Since Part 1 is due out April 16th instead of Christmas pushing it back 4 months... i take it that 4 months is time spent to perfect the VFX before release at least thats what i got from the announcement on their webpage.

So i think personally im gonna bare my judgment on OGaM till its actually out... in all my life as a filmmaker and a general film buff I have NEVER NEVER judged a movie on its trailer... sometimes i think hmm looks interesting or meh... but when it comes down to it ill still view the final piece.

Take Little Miss Sunshine i saw the trailer and read up on it and thought not my kinda movie i watched it and it was superb and thats the same for a lot of movies.

So i will personally wait till the actual release in April

In order for them to be able to do these films at all, they have an agreement with Paramount that they will not make any money off of them. They built the sets, props, etc. out of their own pockets. And, yes, the stars are actually performing free for nothing because they believe in what's being done and what the finished product will be. Very great quantities of time is being DONATED to do these. People who do this stuff for a living are doing it for free with pretty much no budget, which tends to make things very interesting! I realize that you expect to see a $50 million dollar movie made from a $20.00 budget, but at least you could appreciate what everyone had to go through to get it to look good on screen. Me, I'm looking forward to seeing the FINISHED product.

Genre> When did i ever say it was a fanfilm? i didnt... i treat these as their own independant productions... Star Trek: New Voyages, Star Trek: Of Gods and Men and a handful of what once were fan productions have gone way way beyond that now.

Cap? As for building sets they didnt actually do that... i know that for a fact. The sets used within OGaM are that of Star Trek: New Voyages built by that team out of their own pockets and most of the props therein are also that of Star Trek: New Voyages as well.

So none of the production crew actually built these sets they were already standing and have been standing for many many many years.

But i agree with you i am looking forward to it too. As i am with a majority of the other Trek projects being released for free online

reply

lol Genre your the idiot. Its purely a fanfilm. the actors did this as a thank you to fans for there support of star trek over the many years its been around. They cannot make ANY money from this at all. All the people that created and worked on this payed for it out of there pockets. It would violate every copyright law that Paramount has on Star trek if they did it to make money. Read copyright laws and read the actual info on the film before you start calling people idiots. Have a nice day.

reply

Well from what i read... cant guarantee it but from what i read Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is also being used as a test case for CBS to see if these things can actually work... in laymans terms theyre monitoring their progress and if successful who knows

Yeh we all noticed that genre. The thing about a scam is you have to MAKE money from it and not deliver the goods.

As far as we can all tell Sky Conaway and the crew of OGaM are delivering this for free.

That's the only way in which Paramount will allow it to continue.

Paramount clearly stated that these films can exist as long as no profit is made from the use of the name STAR TREK. So far no profit has been made.

I was absolutely embarrased as a Star Trek fan watching that rubbish. That crap!!!

I don't give a rats behind that its a fan film I don't want to watch it. Terrible terrible terrible.

I actually laughed my head off watching some of the parts, and my wife who makes fun of my Star Trek life thought it was the worst thing she had ever seen.

No wonder Star Trek is dead. Personally, as much as I don't want to say it but I think the next movie will be so bad...or people are just not going to be interested...that it will be the last of Star Trek ever.

Hope you all enjoy Star Trek 11 because its the last horrah ever IMO.

Does anybody know -- are the actors paid? I would assume that somebody is bankrolling this, so it may not be true that the actors are doing it for free. Now, I understand that the producers can't make money, but I would think somebody is probably giving the actors a grand apiece (or whatever nominal amount) to appear in the film.

So, you're not going to watch it because it's "terrible"? How do you know it's terrible if you've never seen it?

reply

Re: GenreMedia

Do you really think that these people have enough money to pay all those actors to appear in a production that isn't going to make any money?

No, strike that,

I have a better question.

GM, do you really think?

reply

You say you watched 'Starship Troopers 2'. But did you watch the entire movie? Or did you decide it was crap and turn it off after watching just 15 minutes or so? I just watched this movie (from DVD) for the first time a few months ago and that was my initial impression of it, too. I was truly offended by the cavalier (read "bad") acting of most of the cast until I watched the rest of the movie and realized why that was so. This movie's plot centers around a really nasty twist that you don't discover until it's halfway over. Also, there's a good reason why the bugs aren't so willing to attack all the time that also follows from the plot. So I'd suggest that you give this one another viewing. It's nowhere near as good as the original but, really, it's not half bad.
