The ending..questions

There is already a thread on here titled "Ending" but it didn't answer my questions. I was watching this movie, and then my husband calls me when there was 10 minutes left, and I basically missed the last 10 minutes of the movie. They were trying to figure out how they were going to get help, and the dad leaves to go find help on that little boat. The next thing I saw was the mom and son leaving for LA, they both look very happy together, and then it cuts to the dad sitting on an island looking all banged up and his raft is destroyed.

What does the mother and son think happened to him? Do they think he's dead and move on to start a life together in LA? If so, why do they look so happy? Shouldn't they, at least the son, be grieving?

What are we supossed to believe happens to the dad?

At the end I noticed it said, "In loving memory of...someone". So does that mean he dies?

I don't get it. Moral of the story, ignore all phone calls when you're at the end of a movie! lol

The dad confessed to the son and he let the son go back home with his mother. He was sitting on a mountain because he was running from the cops who had found out that the mother had been telling the truth all along (that he was using fake IDs and had kidnapped his son). I didn't like the ending because it was ridiculous lol. The son wasn't even mad at his dad , he only said something like 'So it was a lie all along? My mother is alive?' And the dad is like 'yes I'm sorry, I ran away with you because I was scared she was going to take you away from me' and that was it. Mother and son hugged and went for a walk along the beach. I was expecting more from the son like for him to even punch his dad, hold him by the neck and tell him he never wants to see him again for hurting his mother and for robbing him off his childhood with her, but oh no, they parted on good terms. The mother was very understanding as well.

Just the kind of horrible ending you would expect from a Lifetime move.
