Time for a new definition?

What does conservatism mean? Does it all dwindle down to an unwavering opposition to lowering taxes, chiefly for the 1 percent? Should it instead designate more than the desire to perpetuate what already exists?

I see conservatism as embodying the following principles: 1)change must contribute to furthering the well being of the community; 2) the community, by exercising democratic control over its own destiny, must ensure that the quality of life of unborn generations has not been diminished.

That is the only conservatism that makes sense to me in this century of impending resource scarcity and already grave environmental degradation.
