Narrator question

Is the narrator in any of the episodes Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs (Discovery Channel)? It sounds exactly like him.

reply

No, it is someone named Brooks. He also narrated another show I saw on the Science channel, so apparently he is a regular.

I thought it was Mike Rowe too - except for a couple instances where I picked up a Canadian accent. They really do sound alike! Brooks T. Moore is who was listed in the credits. I've added him as a narrator to the few episodes I've seen, but the two episodes I saw today were credited here on imdb with a female narrator. I didn't try to delete her, but I know there was no chick talking on the shows I saw today! :) I also don't know if this guy is the same as the Brooks Moore already listed on imdb. Could be, but I wasn't sure...

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.

Brooks T. Moore doesn't sound anything like Mike Rowe. Moore has a very sonorous voice with a lot of "presence," just like Rowe, but there is no way anyone with normal hearing and vocal perception would be confused between the two.

BTW, I think this is a good show, and they do a fair job of demonstrating industrial processes in the limited amount of time they devote to each particular item being manufactured. However, I agree that longer segments going into greater detail would me more appealing to the technological types critical of the show. The only thing I can surmise by the way the show is presented is that it is intended mainly for a younger audience, which is less familiar with industrial processes, and would benefit from the condensed version. But for those on a more advanced level, it does appear to be way too "dumbed down."

Well, I just logged on to IMDb specifically to see if that was Mike Rowe's voice I was hearing narrate "How It's Made" in the other room, and I don't believe my hearing is abnormal.

Brooks was hired by Discovery USA to redo the narration for the U.S. version of the series. The Canadian version of the series has to be re-scripted slightly when it is exported to the U.S. or the U.K. because it uses many reference to things we know very well here in Canada that Americans or Brits would have no idea of.

There have been five announcers during the eight years the show has been on the air here in Canada:

Season 1: Mark Tewksbury (Canadian Gold Medal Olympic Swimmer)
Seaosns 2-4: Show writer Lynn Herzeg
Season 5: June Wallack
Seasons 6-8: Lynn Adams

Seasons 1-7: Jean-Luc Brassard (Canadian Gold Medal Freestyle Skier - French version, no longer being produced)

Wow, way to sound like a complete douche. The sound A LOT alike, might want to get your hearing checked. I thought it was Mike Rowe as well.

I agree, Rowe and Moore have two different sounding voices. I can spot Mike Rowe doing voice overs pretty quickly, like on Deadliest Catch, Ford commercials, and narrator on Sci Fi's Ghost Hunters. Never once did I mistake Moore for sounding like Rowe.
