How can this be remade - Spoilers

I just watched this movie last night, while it was a good movie, i just dont see how this plot can be remade into an original hollywood movie... Considering the plot is about a boy who witnesses his family's execution and years later he conducts an elaborate plan to kill his family's murderers.. i've seen at least three hollywood movies with the same story line... lucky number slevin follows this story line pretty closely. anyone agree?

Yes! I agree totally. I actually read the English-translation script when it was being shopped around Hollywood last year for re-make potential. It's funny that the original film hadn't even been released yet and the filmmakers were already trying to cash in. The plot is almost exactly like "Lucky Number Slevin." I'm sure Monohan will make it his own but the story simply isn't that good. Unless they give it a total makeover, don't expect anything close to "The Departed."

the original concept is the relationship between the two cops and the slow realisation that one is the killer incidentally as well as the official remake there is another film being made (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Righteous_Kill) with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro that sounds like it may bear a similiarity to it mainly in the description "The plot will revolve around police investigators hunting a serial killer, with the early twist being (from the first scene) that one of them is the killer in question", not that close but I can see how it could easily turn into a ripoff
