Sonja, Selene and Lucian aging

There is one thing I don't get about the movie - Sonja is Viktor's daughter, and near the beggining of the movie she is a child, but later she is an adult and ages just as Lucian does.
However they become adults and then just stop aging and are in effect ''frozen'' in time.

Now my questions/problems are:

1. Since becoming a vampire or lycan ''freezes'' you in time and you remain that age forever, I guess that Sonja's age could be explained ( Viktor may have kept her human then changed her later when she was grown, so that she doesn't remain a child forever) but this doesn't explain the aging of Lucian - who aged normal until about 30 then for some reason froze in time and remained such for centuries.

2. Selene was also a child when Viktor found her ( at least I think so) so the same thing applies to her - did viktor wait until she was older to change her or do you need to reach a certain age for the ''freeze effect'' to take place?

- In effect, both Sonja and Selene should have remained kids and Lucian should have remained a baby forever since they don't age due to time

I think Sonja was turned as an adult . That maybe a practice , have the kids and turn them at a good age . However I do not think Selene was a kid when victor found her, I remember her appearing as the same age but with longer hair. Now Lucian I don't get at all

One way to explain it would be to say that growing is still possible, but aging isn't.

The vampires aren't dead in the Anne Rice way, they are just living beings with incredible regenerative abilities. I guess the ability to heal might also stop the aging process.

If growing weren't possible then how could they have babies?

Sonja was a "Pure Blood". In the Underworld mythos, that means being born a vampire. At one point during their fight, Viktor says to Sonja "I curse the day your mother gave her life to bring you into this world!"

I believe that Sonja's mother was a human. Sonja aged naturally until she reached maturity. A lot of people don't know this, but humans continue to grow and mature until the age of 30... then the aging process starts. Sonja grew up... but didn't age past maturity because she was a pure blood immortal.

And what about Selene and Lucian?

reply

Both Selene and Lucian moisturize, practice yoga, and get plenty of refreshing sleep.

Lucian's 'selective' aging also bothered me a bit. He ages 'normally' until certain point, and then suddenly he stops aging... completely? They could have made that a little bit better in my opinion.

Oh well, just look past it i reckon :(

Selene wasn't turned when she was a child. Selene is seen as a child while the construction of William's prison is under way. In Underworld: Evolution, it is said that it was only several years later that Victor went to kill her family because they knew how to open the prison... That was when Selene was turned...

..while the construction of William's prison is under way. In Underworld: Evolution, it is said that it was only several years later that Victor went to kill her family..

I don't remember that being established in Evolution, but it seems the only explanation for RotL's plotline to exist at all.

During the events of RotL, the prison had clearly already been built. We are shown the necklace bearing its key several times; this is actually a plot point to tie this movie in with the original Underworld, establishing how Lucian has obtained it.

Also, at the start of Evolution (in the flashback) we see Victor, Marcus and Amelia waging war on the Lycans together and capturing William. Yet in RotL they have clearly adopted the practice of "leapfrogging through time", with only one of them awake and in power while the others slumber. This again indicates that RotL takes place after Wiliam's imprisonment.

RotL tells the story of Sonja's execution. And since we know that Selene was turned to replace her, that event clearly took place somewhere after the RotL movie.

But it doesn't make a lot of sense. Victor is depicted throughout the Underworld movies as a very cunning, ruthless man, so why would he wait several years to secure the location of William's prison? Surely if he were concerned about the secret of the location becoming know it would have been more effective to kill the builders right after they were done. In fact, allowing Selene's father (and other workers, presumably) to live on for such a long time, Victor could never have been certain that they had not shared the secret already. That is, unless he kept close tabs on them all that time, in which case it's hard to believe he could be so moved by Selene's likeness to Sonja (of which he would have been quite aware) that he decides to spare her.

Then again, he did spare the young Lucian as well, so maybe he's actually a big softie? But then he surely wouldn't have killed his own daughter...

This is an old post but the most logical answer is that blood borns of both species age to their primes then stop. Same reason Wolverine reached a certain age then stops. Their regenerative abilities don't hinder their development it just prevents them from going past their prime.

Pure blooded vampires and lycans only age until they reach their prime. There comes a point where when you get older, you stop "maturing" and start, I guess you would say, deteriorating. The vampires and lycans stop aging once they reach their prime. It seems that they stop aging between their late twenties, early thirties.

As for turned vampires and lycans, the same rules apply. They age until they reach their prime, but if they were turned AFTER their prime, like Viktor was, then they simple stop aging where their at, but their youth can't be restored.
