good theatre but a bad film

How not to make a tour de force theatre production with Britains finest talent into a fussy, poorly directed(visually) and very annoyingly edited work. ie single shot 2 shot 6 shot back to single shot then 2 shot etc etc etc.
The excellent cast must have worked their butts off for a director that had no visual concept for ensemble performance.
A lot of hard work for everyone.
'I Love Lucy' was done with 3 Film cameras, 10 mins and then comercials, easy to cut afterwards and remember students, whats the cheapest thing on a film set....?
The film stock.
With PD150's having hi def, even the runners could have shot an ensemble piece like this better instead of all those singles, 2 shots etc etc.
Tell them at the NFI.
Now I know why i dont work in film no more.
Just because its the venerable (and oh so miserable) Harold Pinter, it doesnt mean that it shouldnt have a fresh look.
What an utter disservice to the great cast. Terry and June looked better and seriously, Friends is better visually directed than this tosh.
A real shame.
1 out of ten.

One can feel your deep frustration regarding the way things didn't work out for you. I am truly sorry for the way life turned out to be.
You went into a rant here about technical issues which the regular guy don't bother to look for. All we care about is the visual experience, the magic of make believe it's a real world, with real people and real issues.
The dialogue here reminded me of Eugene Ionesco's Chairs and I LOVED the filming, for what is worth. I don't pretend to be smart, solely to have a heart and eyes.
You should try that for a change.

The original Almeida theatre production directed by Pinter himself and featuring Keith Allen, Lia Williams, Andy de la Tour, Danny Dyer, Steven Pacey and Indira Varma among others, was recorded in performance and broadcast on BBC4 in around 2002. It's immeasurably superior to this heavy-handed cloth-eared travesty.
