HEY! I got a question about the 'JAPANESE' film version of The Departed!


When Monahan got his Oscar for best adapted screenplay, the voice over actor said that The Departed was based on the JAPANESE film Infernal Affairs. I taped the Oscars and relistened to that part again, and yeah, she said Japanese. Wasn't Infernal Affairs from Hong Kong? If that is the case, then why the hell did they make a massive blunder by mistaking Hong Kong for Japan?!

because they screwed up. i am glad most of us noticed even if the people in hollywood didnt. i cringed when she said that.

If I'm not mistaken, Martin Scorcese thankfully correctly addresses 'Internal Affairs' as a Hong Kong film. At least he gave it the proper recognition.

nah he doesn't correct it per se but gives his thanks to "andrew lau's original film from HK... wonderful asian cinema".

props to him for saying that though.
