Based on Zamyatin's novel 'We'?

Alot of similarities; the idea of oblivion of self, taylorism and fordism dictating every day life, attempts at deriving perfect mathmatical happiness, the countdown in the office is much like the table of hours, the device suppressing bad emotions like the operation to remove the imagination, and finally the suggestion that people need to go "insane", to be wild and unpredictable.

Anyone else familiar with this great dystopian novel?

Way to go. You read a book.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room."-Dr. Strangelove

Thanks. I can use it as toilet paper now I'm done. Books ftw.

I've read We - to be honest I didn't see all that many links.

I'd say the biggest difference is that this movie presented a world of willing victims of consumerism, while We presents a vastly more coercive state.

I suppose you're right that the underlying theme of fear of chaos is the same.
