Question about the cultural situation**Spoiler**

In an American or British story, when a girl gets pregnant by the employer's son, and there is no marriage or abortion, the grandparents generally want nothing more than for the child to vanish off the scene. In this movie, the grandparent wants the mother to disappear but wants to keep the son.

Can someon explain the difference in culture here?

Something to do with blood. The indian psyche cannot abandon or ignore the fact that there is an offspring somewhere in the world that belongs to them.

The movie is still inconsistent with ground realities. Rural india is a lawless zone. There are only a few dozen police men for every 100,000 indians hence in most of the villages, the police are non-existent. What the villagers would do to a rapist in this sort of a world is for you to interpret or imagine.

Are the cultures THAT different? Nobody saw it, she did not scream or draw a crowd; he's in power; she's not. The time honored answer in many areas of the world is "This was not rape, but seduction."
