Does the filmmaker offer any solution? I get it....city dwellers hate suburbs. But what's the solution? Bulldoze all of them and put up cities everywhere? Then start making documentaries about how city life has destroyed "old fashioned values"?
I'm just curious as to whether or not this documentary boils down to "Oh my god, suburban living is for losers lol!!!!" before I rent it. Does it?
Sadly no, but there are a few regular pundits (and the odd architect) who make the rounds on other environmental sprawl shows who do offer some advice, i.e. suburban re-development, e.g. knock it down start over. Other than that nothing really scientific or remotely intuitive/fresh.
I am in Mackenzie Town (Calgary) often and very few residents have even heard of the film, I was surprised by that since I live in North Vancouver and we have all heard of it.
It is acted well though, they had me fooled until the end..
The first step is to point out to the zillions of people who flock to the 'burbs that there are some serious problems with their choices, and maybe they'll eventually start demanding more. This film is only a start -and for most people living out in Blandsville it will be a real shocker.
