I remember (at least, I have the impression) that a mistress of Louis XIV has survived the French Revolution and has emigrated in England. Some years later, she returned for some reason in France, was arrested and guillotined. Who was she?
You are referring to Jeanne Bécu, titled comtesse du Barry who was Louis XV's last official mistress. After her royal lover's death in 1774 she retired to her luxury estate in Louveciennes where she was arrested, having aroused the suspicion of France's revolutionaries with her numerous trips to England, before being guillotined in 1793.
