did the little brother have a japanese female voice?

did the little brother have a japanese female voice?

When we watched it last night I thought it was cool that the little girl was so tom-boyish but then i found out it was actually a boy. Great movie though!

Not sure about this particular film, but very often kids' (m/f) voice-overs are done by women. Besides when the film is meant to be all tearjerky, in that case kidsploitation is the rule.

Oh, look! My glasses.

Excellent, thank you summer boredom. My nephews and I kept thinking it was a girl. I think this is the only real mistake in an otherwise pretty great film.

Yeah this really bugged me throughout the entire film, i thought the same. Just make it a girl in that case, nothing really would have changed in the film, he looked like a girl most of the time anyway.

Why did they do that? It was really distracting, I spent most of the film convinced he was secretly a girl (but nobody knew, like in Pitch Black) until the scene were they were all naked and washing each other (err...). Maybe they were making a point about yin/yang male/female balance but if they were it was a very weak point. The voice actor was fine but why use what is clearly a woman to voice a male role?? Something like The Simpsons is fine, nobody would think Bart has a woman's voice. Here they either chose poorly or were making a point that is never properly delivered.

(Aside from this, I adored the film however)

Yu Aoi is a fine live action actress too, by the way.

It sounded like!
