Tekkon Vs Mind Game Vs Paprika

i'm really torn weather to buy this as there are extremely different reviews of the film. it seems you either love this or hate it completely. i've read it's very dialogue heavy with an ending that leaves much to be desired.

has anyone seen mind game or paprika and can compare them. also, is there a lot of action sequences. i'd hate to see such an amazing art style go to waste without it being action heavy. any extra info would be helpful before i make a purchase as there is nowhere i can rent it.

Hands down, Mind Game. Favorite movie ever, still love to watch it after 15+ times.

I felt that Tekkon left a lot to be desired, the plot was really "standard," nothing I wouldn't get out of any other anime. But the animation is absolutely beautiful, and has a pretty damn creepy scene at the end that I think is the best animated in the whole movie.

As for Mind Game, it's just an original movie that has more levels than I can comprehend. It's the type of movie that's made for analysis but you can't really analyze it because there's just too much. And the ending completely blows my mind. Seriously, every time.

As for Paprika, its really in the middle. Animation's pretty good, some good twists, messes with your head a bit, and GREAT music! As said, if you've never really watched anime before, this may be the best choice. But then again, Mind Game was really my first anime.

To sum up, Mind Game > Paprika > Tekkon.

if you thought mind game and paprika were just a bit average. then THIS is definately the best. i bought it yesterday and have watched it twice through since. definately dont regret buying it. and yes there it lots of action. far more than paprika or mind game. could be compared to the matrix or sumthin. and nah the endings cool, its all about your interpretation of it. k yea thats my two cents. buy it.

i have both paprika and tekkonkinkreet on dvd, and have only given them one viewing, pretty boring, nothing to go back to, but i always support good quality animation.

I haven't seen Paprika yet, but I gotta say, I really disliked Tekkon. Mind Game is my choice. Reasons? It is blossoming with so many ideas, has good jokes, characters you can relate to, some absolutely amazing animation (sex scene and meeting with god come to mind) and doesn't try too hard to seem really serious and meaningful like Tekkon did, but somehow it does it naturally and leaves you thinking for a long time after the credits roll. It's also much more layered, with hidden things you don't notice for the first time. Oh, and I also didn't care for any characters in Tekkon as much as I cared for the old man stuck in the whale.

In my opinion Tekkonkinkreet > Mind Game > Paprika. They're all certainly good films though; you can't go wrong.

Paprika was cool but confusing (I felt meh at the end), Mine Game is fantastic, and I loved this film because somehow they made me care about the two boys in way that moved. Probably because they were not invincible and got beat up good (more realistic). Not to mention the whole yin yang Joseph Campbell thing they had going on.

On another note Aachi and Sssipak is awesome and hilarious and filthy so I suggest that one for taste of something different.

Old thread but I've seen all 3 movies now.

1 Mind Game
2 Tekkon Kinkreet
3 Paprika (as much as I love Satoshi Kon I feel it's a bit lacking)

Mind Game is simply sublime. Nothing compares.

You have to wait for around 15 minutes though until the zaniness really kicks in.

Paparika was fun to watch, but don't think will be revisiting it. Tokyo Godfathers was Satoshi's best imnsho.

Tekkon... well the animation is good, I guess, though somewhat rough. The art design is great, loved the surreal touches (the birds, the Minotaur sequence, etc.) The colouring is similar to Paprika. But I absolutely hated the two main kid characters, and even more so their superpowers and the anime cliche "kids beat adults". The "philosophical" part was very crude and clumsy. Had they gotten that fantasy aspect better (there were some glimpses of it, like where at times White's imagination would invade the real world [elephant riding bit]), and integrated it better it could have been an excellent movie indeed. As such when its faults are held against the things it does right it's somewhere in the vicinity of Paprika, maybe a little bit better.
