Hit and run victims families!!

I did not read the book but have a feeling I did not have to. This was well acted by Phoenix and Ruffalo. If you want to see how a family is ripped to shreds by loved ones, especially children of drunk or just hit and run drivers then this is the movie to see. Not only is it incredibly sad but it is very real and human. If it was my son and you couldn't get any justice from the "system" I would go out and look for the POS. Ruffalo does a great job at playing a down on his luck kind of guy riddled with guilt but doesn't have the sack to fess up to what he did. Phoenix plays a great role as the father of a slain son. I enjoyed this movie because it really brought you into the lives on both sides of the spectrum in these tragic events. The end is very thrilling and makes you think if just going out and looking for someone who perpetrated a crime against you won't truly bring closure to you and your family and will not bring the loved one bsck. Saying that I still would want to know and be vengeful. All in all a really good but SAD as hell movie..!!

You're so right about how this kind of things tear a family apart. Most marriages don't survive. The ripple effect is staggering; the entire family, including grandparents, aunts & uncles, even close friends all feel the pain to some degree.
A VERY close member of my family was assaulted 9 years ago, and the insuing nightmare with the police, who treated it like "a date gone bad" our family priest telling me that it was "part of God's plan", has caused our whole family to suffer a bit every single day. She (the victim) said that if it ever happened again, she wouldn't even call the police. The police know who the man is, but say that they couldn't get enough physical evidence to make a case. Maybe it's because they threw away the mattress when she and her children moved in to "her parents' home that night. The lack of professionalism and just plain decency displayed by our town's law enforcement agencies were appalling. And, yes, I wanted desperately to kill the man, and would have happily done so if the police would tell us his name. They protected his rights, and violated hers. I can't imagine any parent feeling any other way. BTW, a 13-year-old girl was grabbed on her way home from school, raped, and dumped on a rural road to find her way home. Amazing, right? If it was up to me, he should be left in a room with the parents of his victims and a few baseball bats. Let the "rehabilitation" begin!! And no, that doesn't bring me down to his level; it shows other abusers what's waiting for them if they don't tighten up.
The only difference between a cop and a vigilante is a badge and a few months of training. Screw that.
My husband has plenty of guns and ammo, and he gave me a very nice S&W 9mm semiautomatic just a few days ago. That's my purse gun. I've got a lovely .357 with hollow-tips as my house gun. Both help even the scales when/if I don't feel safe. Mess with me or mine, and I'll light you up like a Christmas tree. Let that guy show his face in town again (my mom knows his name and the town he lives in but won't tell me as long as he stays away), and he'll be dead before supper.
What a world, right??
