Why Not Stop and Try to Provide Assistance to the Kid You Ran Over?

(SPOILERS) Ruffalo's character did not seem to be drunk or otherwise incapacitated which is often a lame sociopathic reason to flee a vehicular crime scene. His reason to escape was his ex-wife would nag him less hard about the kid's late return. Seriously, the guy makes himself a criminal out of fear the ball breaking mother of his son who will punish him more denying privileges to spend time with his son watching baseball games.

Bottom line. Hurt someone accidentally. Make an effort to help them. Worry about consequences the next day.

Very believable. Living in a very large metro area, this is sadly a fairly common story on our local newscast. Often the perpetrator turns out to be a pillar of society - not drunk, not fleeing another crime scene, never been in trouble before. Once it was a well-respected, award-winning teacher, another time it was a pastor. Not a plot hole at ALL.

I agree that it wasn't a plot hole. I got the impression that he was afraid that his son was seriously injured, and probably in need of emergency medical treatment. Remember, his eye was hurt. If it was bleeding, it was almost certainly a heavy, very scary bleed; facial cuts bleed like the dickens. I think he was very concerned about his son's condition, not sure how badly the child was hurt, and in shock. I'm not saying he was right. I think a horrible situation just kept getting worse and worse till he was tangled in a mess he just couldn't see how to escape.

It wouldn't be interesting if he stopped to help the kid.

He wasn't worried about his son's mom's desire to have their son home ASAP-- that part was supposed to demonstrate to the viewer that she was already concerned with his parenting. If he owned up to hitting a young boy, he was going to lose the little custody time he had with his son altogether.
