Doesn't make sence...

If that was all about self-sacrifice Grace didn't need an angel. Despite all the drinking and whoring (circa pre-Earl) she was always ready to protect innocent people from harm.
So what was the point of all those supernatural interventions? She didn't need to accept God to die on the line of duty.

reply

She didn't sacrifice herself in order to fulfill her role as a cop. She even resigned before doing so, remember? She did it as a Christian to save those who she loved. As Christ said, "The greatest love one man can express is to lay his life down for his brother."

reply

And you think she wouldn't do the same if she never met Earl?

reply

she killed herself for no reason, as far as we know the evil guy is still alive . burning people.

reply

I kind of thought the same thing. It's almost like she didn't seem to get that angels can't really be killed. They aren't even human. Offing herself with the evil angel only accomplishes her death, not his.

I was totally disappointed. I get that the whole thing with Earl had to happen so that when she died she would go to heaven. That's what it was all about with Leon Cooley. It's about saving souls, not lives.

It is a TV show, you are debating fiction. It is a great show though.

reply

Yeah, it's fiction and, in the great scheme of things, not all that important. But hey, if you think we're bad here, just see what Star Wars fans are debating!

actually there was a very good reason, to ensure fans dont go crazy and mail endless boxes of Angel wings, maxipads with Wings, or perhaps goose Feathers to the studios mail room with multiple thousands of petitions to get the film back on the air.

They wanted to Ensure that it Was NEVER going to be Possible to put the show on the air Ever Again.

Personally I think There should be a web site created as a Petition.... or more so a PROTEST, about the cancellation. Where people join together to send Cases of maxipads with Wings to the Studio. Cheap easy product to buy and Not care about wasting it too much by sending it to the studio.

Ps wasnt my Idea but....
I'm going with very Funny!!

I believe the Production Studio(not TNT), the powers that Be that cancelled the show Deserve the Problem in their mailroom, especially after that poor excuse for Tieing up loose ends and Ending a great Show GRACEFULLY. Or should I say the Lack of Grace fully Ending the show.

I felt Ripped off and I didnt pay more than my Cable Bill to see it.

Actually, I remember an interview done before the third season even started where Holly Hunter said that the third season would be the last. That was the plan all along.
I'll admit that I had hopes that if/when the show became as popular as it did, thet the producers would change their minds, but they didn't, they stuck to what was the plan for the show nearly from the beginning.
I'm also sure, now that it's over, that the ending was also something that was planned for a long time. There was some hint of it in the interview (with Holly Hunter) at the time, but only as I look back at it now.

Grace Hanadarko, if you are listening, you WILL be missed!

reply

It wasn't the plan all along. It got canceled and they got the word during the second season that number 3 would be their last. So they knew they had a finite number of episodes and crafted their ending. Much like Fringe did. Fox wasn't going to pay for a full season and told them they'd get a final 13 episodes to wrap things up in and they did just that.

reply

If she had died in the line of duty without accepting God, she would have gone to hell. Now she died accepting God and therefore went to heaven.

Quite simple, I think.

And the person saying that she died as a christian missed the whole point.

Agreed. But you're also assigning a Christian religious pattern to her death.

I agree. It's that kind of limited thinking that causes a lot of problems. Imposing your view on things and assuming it is the right one.

It was made obvious in the show that "God" did not favor any particular religion. Earl had in depth knowledge of ALL beliefs and we have plenty of reason to believe that not all his "charges" were even Christian... in fact, the drug addicted woman had faith in a female representation of god.

Grace's death was not a "Christian" death any more than it was a Jewish one or Buddhist one. It was the death of a woman who sacrificed herself to protect others. Christianity does not hold the patent on such behavior. (and I was raised a Catholic, by the way).

As for the "evil angel" surviving.. we can't be so sure of that. Maybe HOW Grace hoped to get rid him (the WILLING sacrifice.. the surrender to something bigger than herself) was what was needed to banish him back to where he belonged.. if not outright "end" him. It was not an act of law but an act of love.
