It's still being done because they do it under the guise of a 'religious practice'. They call it 'female circumcision', to make it sound like the removal of the male forskin, but instead, it's like removing the entire penis. Still being done in the good old U.S.A.. The reason they give for doing it is, that their religion says that women should not be tempted to have sex for any other reason than having children, and by removing the organ for pleasure, this helps the woman resist temptation.
