The rape scene?

I don't want to sound dumb... but why did Ruth even allow her son to have sex with Meg? She believed Meg was dirty and disgusting, yet allowed her own to son to sleep with her? Like, beyond what she says about extracting the clap from him, Ruth genuinely dislikes Meg, so why allow it? And why allow her 11 year old to do it?

I was curious about why she allowed one son to do it and not the other. She was just totally opposed to letting Donny have his way with Meg. Her reasoning for it didn't really make any sense either, comparing it to incest and saying he's just like his father. It was weird.

ummm the witch (ruth) was insane,so dont even try to make sense of what ruth was thinking.

Yea Ruth was a mental case. I could've gone without watching this movie. But the reason she let one son and not the other... She wouldn't let the younger boy "swim in his brothers" semen I guess.... She thought it'ld be incest if one brother went right after the other. Whatever it is... Ew

Yeah it doesn't really make sense why she all of a sudden would let her son rape her, when before she didn't even want her kids to touch her. Right after they tied her up, one of the boys reached for her wanting to touch her and Ruth yelled at him saying "No one touch her! She's dirty!" But then she lets her son rape her later..doesn't make sense.

reply

Ruth herself was a sexual... umm... deviant. Remember the sister said that she touched her and made her bleed.

It makes no sense because this is an exploitation flick, and "making sense" was not one of the director's priorities. That's the simple answer.

It never happened in the real incident. Sylvia was never sexually abused in ANY manner. Nor was she tied & stripped. She WAS forced to strip herself, by the mother, but that's far less sado-erotic than being tied & stripped by a teenage boy, while blindfolded, in front of the whole crowd.

The blowtorch thing also never happened, but hey, they got to show two teenage boys wrenching her legs wide open....

Wake up already. This film had only one purpose.

The people involved in making this exploitive piece of garbage should be ashamed of themselves.

I thought Sylvia was forced to insert a coke bottle inside herself or something like that. either way, this film is seared into my brain. I thought it as a very effective, well-acted film by the way. But I hated David and could not sympathize with him for a second. He was such a mouse.

A STATEMENT IS IRRELEVANT UNLESS IT IS WRITTEN IN CAPS LOCK

Please do your research and make an effort to know what you're talking about before you comment on such a serious subject.

Sylvia WAS sexually abused, in horrific ways. It upsets me to see you playing down what she went through.

You saying it never happened is just as crappy as a movie exploiting her suffering. No, it's worse actually, because at least the film got people to research Sylvia's real story and pay respect.

Answer to the original question:

She changed her mind. It happens.

Haven't seen the movie, but IIRC, in the book, it's Donny raping Meg, and Ruth letting him because Donny is in love with Meg and, according to Ruth, men don't want women anymore once they've had them, therefore letting him have her should cure him of his love for Meg.

reply

She was sexually abused, yes, being made to insert a glass bottle into her vagina several different times. No one raped her, through intercourse. The medical records stated that her hymen was still intact and that her vagina was swollen nearly shut due to the glass bottle.

Syliva was sexually assaulted her vigina was massively sowellen and it was admitted they stuck bottles in her repeatly does it really matter who stripped her in the movie??? Syliva was sexuallt assaulted and tied up nude with her feet barely touching the ground that's a fact

reply

There's really only one way I can explain....

She was batcrap crazy.

That's all I got.

reply

Ruth was motivated by hatred, and hatred is not rational. There was nothing she wanted more than seeing Meg suffer, and rape was one of the tools she used against it.

She didn't allow her younger son to have sex with Meg.

reply

Because Ruth was beyond evil.

reply

I don't think she ever thought that Meg was "dirty." She said that to control her sons.

reply

(I don't mean so as to protect Meg from them, but so that she could orchestrate events.)
