Isn't anybody embarassed about pimp production?

Here is a movie shot in Canada and promoted as a joint Ontario-Quebec production. Presumaby it got federal and provincial tax credits. Yet it is all about an event in an American small town. Bad enough that the Americans come up here and use Toronto as a stand in for Detroit, but when Canadian film makers do it.... Gawd!!! And take Canadian tax dollars to do it!!! Sure it creates some jobs for Canadian film crews. But they could do just as well and be more honest about it if they just pimped.

Is it unreasonable that Canadian film companies would make films that sell to American networks, so therefore, the location where the film is set would be an American city which would better appeal to an American audience? What you're suggesting is "selling out" could be construed by others as understanding what their buyers want-- which in turn, keeps those companies in business. I'm guessing, as successful business people, staying in business is their goal.
