Extremely random question

I really enjoy this show because it's one of those shows that isn't afraid of presenting complex ideas just because it's on Cartoon Network (and I'm referring to the interesting episodes where Reed's science takes over).
But I do have one problem with this show: what is that paint thing on the Thing's chest? Don't know why but it really pisses me off. Was the "4" logo painted on his chest in the comics (I wouldn't know as I haven't read them).
